A biker gang and a glee club go into a bar... That's not a joke setup. It's just the cold open.

This week the angel turf war between Bartholomew and Malachi escalates fast, Castiel shows up with his FBI badge still very much in hand, and Metatron is lurking in alleyways because heaven is boring.

Meanwhile, the Gadreel situation is unraveling, and this midseason finale does not pull its punches. Berly and LA break down the big reveals, debate Metatron's jarring villain pivot, mourn a beloved character, and address the show's angel-power inconsistencies.

We close out with a mid-season check-in: too many factions, Abaddon still out there with a list of every hunter's name, Crowley in the basement probably judging everyone's choices, and Gabriel still nowhere to be found despite promises he's coming. Berly is keeping score.

The midseason finale came for our throats, and we were NOT prepared.

Drop a comment with your theories, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. Jerk. Bitch.

Welcome to Dina Wrapped Nightmares, Tipsy Exchange podcast, where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.

LA

Over drinks, we'll discuss the lore, the gore, and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly

I'm Burley, and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA

I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy. Hello, LA. Hello, Burley.

Berly

Last episode was titled Rock and a Hard Place. So hard. People were getting kidnapped and buried alive in a fallout shelter. And it turns out the culprit was Vesta. Yes, the Roman goddess, who's been moonlighting as a church secretary named Bonnie this whole time. She started getting church people who break their vows, their chastity vows, and eating their livers for purity purposes. That's the only thing that purifies these nasty whores on earth. Obviously, Dean joins the chastity group, of course. Immediately blows his cover by seducing the group leader, who's also a porn star. And gets himself kidnapped too. Sam and Jody save the day with an oak steak dipped in virgin blood. But the realty, when Vesta tried to snack on Sammy's liver, she literally recoiled. His insides are wrecked. Ezekiel is still puppeteering Sam and won't let Dean spill the truth.

LA

Alright, well, today's episode is titled Holy Terror. Holy shit. Is what I say it is. The end, yeah. Oh my god. Uh, it's the ninth episode and the midseason finale of season nine, and it aired on December 3rd, 2013. And it starts out in Caribou, Wyoming. And there's this lovely little glee club in a nice little white school bus pulling up to the bar. Yeah.

Berly

What were they? What did they oh it was like holy holy something church glee club or something like that? I don't remember.

LA

Well, their singing is great. Um, but they hop off the bus and it's just a bunch of ladies in white dresses and like a little cardigan. They're all in the same thing. And so they go into the bar and line up at the door. And it's just like a biker bar, like a filled with bikers, and they all stand up kind of what is it? Like um, what's that movie?

Berly

Um, Step Step It Up. What's the what's the dance-off movie? I was very confused during all of this.

LA

I was oh, I was too, yeah.

Berly

Why is this church group going to this random and the biker bar was great? Yeah. I don't know if Jerry built that or if they found that somewhere, but that was that was cool. That tiny little bar out in the middle and where it was like just dressed perfectly. And then when they went in and everybody lined up, I was like, Are we gonna hand jive? Like, I don't understand what's yeah, and then he's like, You're not supposed to be here.

LA

And she's like, We have every right to be here as much as you do. I was like, What is what is going on? What is this? Is this a bar special? Like, I still don't understand it. So yeah, then they just start angel blades come out and they're just fighting each other, and the ladies just casually walk out covered in blood, get back on the bus and start their singing on their merry way.

Berly

Okay, so we find out later in the episode that the biker team is team Bartholomew.

LA

Yes.

Berly

And the Glee Club is Team Malachi. Yes. And they all know that they all got kicked out of heaven and that Cassial and Metatron had something to do with it. They all know this, right? So what were they talking about? Like that you don't have the right to be here. We have just as much a right.

LA

What what uh yeah, I don't know.

Berly

None of you are there by choice.

LA

I guess because they're on sides, like it's their bar, you're not supposed to be here.

Berly

Oh, I bet you're right. I bet you're right.

LA

We'll go with that.

Berly

I thought they meant Earth, and so I was very confused, but that makes much more sense.

LA

Well, I only came up with that when you reminded me about the sides, so all right. So after the ladies take off, we are in the car with the boys, except it's not Sam chatting, it's Zeke talking to Dean about how we he thinks Sam's getting there. He's rude, you know, just getting there almost, almost every time. It was another good transition from Jared. I I I mean, I know we talk about this so much, but it's just so good. He does he does it so well. Um except this time he noticed after Zeke took off and it was Sam came back, uh, he noticed that they had gone like 50 something miles since the last sign he saw, and it was like just a little while ago. He's like, How did we did we just time travel? What happened? Uh so yeah, I think Sam's getting starting to get a little suspicious. Weird things are happening.

Berly

And Ezekiel's becoming a chatty Kathy. I mean, 50 miles?

LA

Yeah.

Berly

What all were they talking about?

LA

I guess Sam. The whole time.

Berly

Got a full body rundown.

LA

Or maybe Ezekiel was just like hiding out, being quiet, being him, just checking things out. And then he started talking. So maybe Dean didn't even realize, you know? Uh-huh. I don't know. But anyway, before Zeke takes off, though, he does mention that he's not real excited about Dean taking Sam on a trip to investigate the angels. Dean's gonna do it anyway because he thinks it would be more suspicious if he told Sam that they, yeah, we're just gonna skip this one. Right, you know. So once they get to the biker bar, they they go in, you know, as their FBI agent selves. And one of the guys tells them that one of their partners is already there, which I was like, oh, is it gonna be Garth? I was I was excited, not even thinking about Cast DL.

Berly

I was thinking about that, like, where the fuck is Garth? Yeah, he hasn't shown up at all. Like, how has he not shown up at his boat to check on Kevin and then been like, oh, where are you? Like, he's just gone.

LA

I was really excited, but then I was like, then I was like, oh, Cass. But then I was excited because Cass is just so cute. He's just cute.

Berly

Him and Sam, whenever Sam came walking up, was like, agent. And they were like, Agent. That was such a cute little interaction.

LA

It was, and then Dean's face, like looking at him, like, what the hell are you doing here?

Berly

And him just, I still have that badge you gave me, because that's a that's the explanation.

LA

There you go. And he was so excited about it. Yeah. He said that he felt like if if there's you know angels going after each other, he needed to be involved.

Berly

He doesn't want more angels to die. Right. Until he kills one later. Yeah, yeah.

LA

Castile, you know, having his first beer, he's already tipsy. And so he starts telling the boys that Bartholomew wants to take Metatron's spell and reverse it to get everybody back, all the angels, back to heaven. Cass goes to get them another round, and of course, Ezekiel shows up. There's another little transition with but this one I don't even think Ezekiel said anything. He just switched to him and just like stood there, like staring at at Dean, like, so now you've taken him on it on an investigation with angels, and now Cass is here. What he's like, what did I tell you? What did I tell you?

Berly

All the angels are gonna come here and bust me.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

But I can't say that because you don't know that I have something to be busted for yet.

LA

Yeah. But we find out.

Berly

Oh my god.

LA

Because the they're at the bar, right? They're they're having some brewski's at the bar, the three of them. Sam gets well, Ezekiel gets up because you know, he's pissed that he's sitting at the table with Cass and that this is all going on. So he goes out into the alleyway, and who shows up? Metatron.

Berly

Metatron. I was happy to see Curtis Armstrong though. I'm very conflicted, I'm very conflicted with this Metatron character, because the character's terrible, you know? But it's Curtis Armstrong. I love him.

LA

I was not expecting him to show up.

Berly

Me neither. I was surprised. Especially just to wander into the alleyway and just be like, hey, so I'm getting bored up there, and I thought maybe you can help me with that. Yeah.

LA

He's like, plus, by the way, I know who you are.

Berly

Oh my god, yeah.

LA

That I didn't see that coming in either.

Berly

I didn't either. Like, I mean, you and I have talked about it that something's up, something shady, but I didn't think it was gonna straight up be he's completely lying about who he is.

LA

Yeah. And so he's he's actually gladriel.

Berly

Gladriel?

LA

Is that how you say it?

Berly

Godril.

LA

Gadril.

Berly

Gadril is how Curtis Armstrong said it.

LA

Okay.

Berly

He like, gah, he like he like drew that out, drew out the gah, Godril. We're gonna listen to Metatron. Oh, I'm kinda gonna. He would know. Inside after Sam got up and walked away, Cass was kind of just like, Dean, what the fuck?

LA

Oh yes, yes, yeah.

Berly

Like you told him that you told me to leave, right? Because Sam's acting very confused as to why I left and what's going on here. And Dean's just like, okay, it's just there's just a lot going on, okay? Like he was messed up. And Cass is like, You said Ezekiel healed him, though. And Dean's just like, Yeah. Yeah, but he's just he's just messed up, okay? Like poor Dean, he is not a good liar. For somebody who deceives so many people, he is not a great liar.

LA

Yeah, no, not convincing at all. No. But I mean, he's not wrong. There is a lot going on in Sam.

Berly

So he just didn't add that I let an angel possess my brother, okay? Yeah. That's the problem. He's still in there hanging out.

LA

Uh so later that same night, though, um, the Malachi team meets up with Bartholomew's team team, and but b Bartholomew is too busy to show up himself, and Malachi is not having it. Doesn't want that disrespect. And then his little handmaid lady that's shown up for him, she was she was pretty sassy.

Berly

She's she was in uh another episode because we thought she was gonna be the new Naomi. Okay, yeah.

LA

When she showed up, I was like, man, she looks familiar.

Berly

Yeah, I don't remember which episode it was, but she showed up re before Bartholomew, I think. And now we won't we won't be seeing her again.

LA

Yeah, I mean Malachi just took all of them out.

Berly

Mm-hmm.

LA

Malachi don't play along with his along with his little glee club lady.

Berly

Have we seen that yet?

LA

I don't think so.

Berly

I don't think so either. That's crazy.

LA

It was startling.

Berly

Mm-hmm.

LA

Okay, so back to when Metatron's talking with Gadril. Gadril.

Berly

Godril.

LA

Godril.

Berly

Godrill. Gadrill can drill me. Oh, okay. When's that other guy? Well, I don't think we're ever gonna get him back. Who? That other one. What are you talking about? The first Gadrill in the season premiere. That Haughty Toddy.

LA

Oh, yeah. Well. Gadril. Gadrill. This is gonna be terrible. He insists. Just call him G. Little G. G Dog? Yeah, G Dog.

Berly

G-Dog. Let's go with that.

LA

He uh he insists that all the stories about him aren't true. Um, but Metatron points out that he did spend thousands of years in Heaven's darkest dungeon. Then he tells him that it broke God's heart to lock him away. He he really hurt him. So then G is wondering what the hell Metatron's, you know, why is he buttering him up? What does he want? What's his plan? And he says that he's the one who freed G. He's like, Yeah, it was me. I caused all the angels to fall. Uh, even the imprisoned ones. That's you're welcome. And then, yeah, like you said, he's like, I'm bored. Um, so now that you're here, let's uh let's try and work together and get your uh reputation back in order.

Berly

Yeah, go team.

LA

Yeah. So we got another slide.

Berly

Yeah, he's like, I just want to recruit like the smart angels and maybe some funny ones to bring back to heaven with us, and that's it.

LA

Yeah, he's like, I just need some entertainment.

Berly

Just a little bit.

LA

Well, we're back at the bunker. And Sam is now wondering what happened to Castile. Because, you know, Dean sent him off again. Dean is claiming, you know, Castile left on his own, and Sam's been checking the obituary on the dead bikers and discovered that they were all baptized together as born-again, as a born-again gang. Yeah.

Berly

The born-again biker gang. That sounds like it needs a theme song of some sort.

LA

The kid along gang. We should make one now. Oh, yeah, yeah. So he shows Dean and Dean actually says to he like zooms in on this patch on one of the guys' uh what do they call him? What do they call their little vests?

Berly

I don't know.

LA

Oh, well, anyway, on his vest. The patch said something that that made them realize that they're they're attached with uh good old buddy Boyle. Baby Billy Boyle. Yeah. Which he's only been in that one episode, right? But then he's he's literally we've heard his name.

Berly

We've heard his name in every episode, I feel like. But we haven't seen him since that giant blood splooged all over his face. I don't feel like except for like pictures.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

Maybe maybe it was budget.

LA

Well, maybe he got busy, he got another role somewhere else.

Berly

Maybe, yeah. This is when they figure out oh, okay, trying to convince the entire nation through Reverend Boyle's videos was too much, and they decided to divide and conquer with smaller groups instead. Yes, get them, get them buttered up and then let the angels take them right then and there. And then we got to see it happen in action, but something went wrong.

LA

Oh, yes, okay.

Berly

That was crazy.

LA

Oh, I like on this they call her the choir lady. She's the Glee Club lady. And she's uh got this little campfire going with, I guess, this college Bible study group, and she is assuring them that they are perfect for God's plan. Perfect. Uh so as she's doing her little preaching, the um angel lights come swirling down, and they're about to take over the bodies of all the people in the group, and she's like, just let it happen. Yeah, just take just let it happen, let them in, let them in.

Berly

Let the giant glowing stream of semen just take it. Let it in. Yeah.

LA

Just take it.

Berly

Take it up.

LA

So Malachi shows up in the midst of all this and takes out Glee Club lady from behind. Just stabs her with that blow.

Berly

That couldn't have been Malachi, that must have been Bartholomew's people because she's one of Malachi's people. Oh, you're right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He looked like a a motorcycle dude, I thought though. Yeah.

LA

Yeah, he did.

Berly

Oh well. They they come in all shapes, yeah. Yeah.

LA

Right. But you are correct. Yeah. So I had that wrong. Bartholomew's people come and take her out. And then they also just decide, let's just smite all these people she was trying to get angels into. Sorry, guys.

Berly

I was like, holy shit, they're like murdering people now. Yeah. Oh, the biker gang is Bartholomew's people. Remember, they got their BB patch. So Malachi is the one who's being a rogue biker gang person and just decided to start his own group. Yeah. That was like his other rogue buddy. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah. That makes sense.

LA

Okay. Got it. So yeah, they just murder a bunch of innocent college students during their Bible study. Yeah. Real nice.

Berly

And I needed a clear distinction here, guys. Okay. I needed to know that the biker gang looking guys were Bartholomew people and the Glee Club looking people were Malachi people. And then y'all went and dressed Malachi like a biker gang person. Confusing.

LA

Yeah. It yeah, I agree. Especially when the ladies were so dis they looked so absolutely opposite. Yeah. On the sides that they were, you know, on. So then yeah, that just like that throws you.

Berly

Threw me. Threw me. Yeah. Yep.

LA

All right.

Berly

Well, moving on.

LA

The next day. G Goddreil. Godril. Godril. Anyway.

Berly

Godriel.

LA

He meets up with uh Metatron. So Sam sneaks out basically. Well, Ezekiel sneaks out. I was like, no, G. God is getting too confused. There's too many things going on. G Dog, G Dog.

Berly

G Dog kidnaps Sam's vessel to go meet up with Metatron.

LA

There we go. And uh Metatron, I like Metatron's like, oh, these humans and the emotions is too much. I was like, I get it.

Berly

We get it, yeah.

LA

We know, man.

Berly

I liked the full-body shots of Curtis Armstrong next to Jared Patalecki.

LA

Oh my god, yeah.

Berly

I'm like, we could have had them sitting to talk to each other, but no, in every scene they had them standing next to each other.

LA

Oh my god, and I have to tell you, my mom watched this one with me again. And like uh uh when the three of them cast Dean and Sam are at the bar, and then they keep showing their faces. My mom was like, There's some good looking guys in this show. And I was like, Yeah, why do you think we watch it? And then and then later on, uh Sam's do smiles about something, and she's like, Oh, hello, dimples. It's like okay, settle down.

Berly

We were saying that in season one, though, so we can't judge her. True. We were going temples. We've gotten used to them.

LA

I was like, and he's 6'4, like it just gets better and better. But anyway, I just thought that was funny. Yeah. So anyway, back to uh Metatron. G asks Metatron if he plans to rule heaven and points out that if he does, you know, then he would technically be God. And Metatron's like, oh no. Uh you come with me and we'll do it together, and it'll be paradise again. I mean, who trusts this guy? Come on. And then, oh my god, Castilla at his hotel. Oh, this guy. He's like asking asking for answers and praying in like every position possible. Every religion. Yeah.

Berly

He's hitting every religion, praying every which way.

LA

It was it was really cute. He turned, he ends up, you know, taking care of checking all the boxes of all the prayers. And then there's Muriel who's actually at the door, and she's dressed as like uh some sort of police officer. And uh, she had great hair.

Berly

She was adorable.

LA

Yeah. I was another one just coming in and out, you know. She is an angel and she realizes that she's dealing with Cass and she's like, I'm out of here. Right. Now that I know who you are, I'm gone. And he's like, No, no, no, stay. And he kind of like gives her the lowdown of you know his plans and what's going on and all the things, all the things.

Berly

Well, the main thing he does is I didn't help Metatron knowingly. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the main story that he wants her to understand.

LA

I don't know that the bunker's gonna be the same for me after this episode.

Berly

I have to say, Oh my god.

LA

I have so many thoughts to share on this episode. Sweet, sweet, Kevin.

Berly

Our baby Kevin.

LA

Oh, Kevin. He's going over the tablet and tells Dean that uh Metatron made Crawley's gonna be so upset. Why?

Berly

Kevin. That was his best friend.

LA

I just I can't. We'll get there. We'll get there. I don't not that I want to, but he yeah, so he's telling Dean that Metatron made an attempt to keep some of the words hidden from the prophets. And uh Sam comes back from his meeting with Metatron, and Dean tells him that there's been another angel attack in Utah with the Bible group. And the report says that the Glee Club lady was stabbed but didn't have her eyes burned out. Interesting, like all the others. And they figure that she and her people killed Bartholomew's people, and then they attacked her back. And Dean tells Kevin that they're running out of time.

Berly

Dean, if you only knew, if you only knew, he's not thinking about all these people getting slaughtered and not realizing like the dangers inside the house, bro.

LA

Yeah, it's coming from it. Oh literally inside Sam. Oh my god. So Kat, yeah, like you said, Cass tells Muriel the whole thing that about Metatron tricking him, and she decides to believe him. But Muriel admits that Malachi is leading the rebellion against Bartholomew, and both sides are rounding up the neutrals who don't pledge loyalty. And uh Malachi and his other rogue buddy break in.

Berly

What did you think of Theo though, LA?

LA

I mean, I I didn't think much of him, but uh again, my mom was like, uh, she said something about this guy, who's this guy? Like, what oh why'd he kill him?

Berly

That was my thought process like, oh, who's this guy? And then when they're having the conversation, I'm like, okay. I'm I'm not gonna be upset if he's hanging around for a few episodes.

LA

He did not.

Berly

Yeah, and then he did not. But we're not there yet. We're not there yet. Oh, I do have another thought on this scene though. So they t they kidnap them, they have them in the sewers or wherever it is they are. Muriel is still an angel. Yeah, correct? Yeah. So why was she all battered and bruised on her face?

LA

That is a very good point.

Berly

Like this is one of This is one of my recurring issues with not just supernatural, but other supernatural shows. Like I remember Buffy had this problem sometimes. It's just the inconsistencies in like if they're super powered string. Yeah, the continuity between stuff. Like, come on, it bothers me sometimes. Like I remember there was an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where it's like in one episode, a chandelier drops her on her and she's stuck under the chandelier. She can't get the chandelier off of her. And then a few episodes later, she's like working as a construction worker and carrying a giant steel beam by herself. And I'm like, but she couldn't get that chandelier off of her. Like, and so it's just like this with the superhuman strength stuff in Buffy. Just inconsistencies.

LA

Well, I didn't even catch that, and that you clocked it. And then, of course, then you say it, and it's like, yeah, that doesn't make sense at all.

Berly

Nuh-uh. Same thing with the angel fights. Like, two angels fighting was supposed to devastate the entire planet. Now it doesn't even devastate an entire bar. You know, like that bar was perfectly fine. I didn't even see too many broken bottles up in there. You know what I mean?

LA

Yeah, just a bunch of bodies.

Berly

Yeah. Ezekiel comes out to play in one episode earlier this season, and all the windows get blown out. But like, this was how many angels fighting each other in the bar? You're right. And there were a few broken puel cu pull cues. Like those inconsistencies are becoming more and more apparent. Apparent. Well, not apparent. They're just happening more frequently. And it's getting on my nerves.

LA

But yeah, you're so good at catching that. Cause I mean, I I'm just like the dumbass sitting here, like, okay, yeah, that makes sense. Well, it doesn't matter that that doesn't add up, but okay.

Berly

I mean, it doesn't matter the overall storyline, right? Like, it doesn't matter, but just yeah, it just some of that stuff bothers me. And I understand changing the lore because you want it to be different. That's that's one thing, and they have done that with some stuff, and that that's fine, but yeah, to just have inconsistencies, inexplainable inconsistencies like that. Like, why was Muriel all beaten and bloody if she's an angel?

LA

Yeah, she should have just been tied up.

Berly

Yeah.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

I mean, she could she could have been tired and defeated, but like, why did she have like a black eye? Where the fuck did that come from?

LA

Like, well, and to your point, like obviously Cass they beat up, and that's right, because he's human. So it's like just right there in that scene, it doesn't literally it doesn't make sense.

Berly

And then as soon as he gets Grace back, all his injuries are gone. So that's where I like kind of went, so why was Muriel all beat up? Did they take her Grace? I don't understand. I almost I'm gonna have to like rewatch that scene. That's I how sexy did Castell look though, whenever he was tied up and he had the old the old messed up hair was back and his shirt, his shirt was undone.

LA

Mm-hmm. I like it when he took control. Oh, yeah. You know what? Theo, you're out.

Berly

See, I I liked it when he was I thought he looked sexier when he was tied up. I mean, don't get me wrong, it looked hot whenever he was sucking that grace out.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

That looked hot, but I thought he was just so serious. I thought he looked hotter whenever he's tied up and was like, yeah.

LA

I am gonna miss uh like cute, jolly human cast.

Berly

I know, I was surprised. I thought they were gonna keep him human for much, much longer because it seems like they've had trouble with his powers. Like you can't have an all-powerful angel in your pocket and have trouble overcoming obstacles. So I totally thought we were gonna have human cast for at least this season. Like I was gonna say, like the rest of the season, at least. Yeah. Yeah, I'm surprised.

LA

Well, we'll see.

Berly

But that's not that's not his grace, though. He sucked that.

LA

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say.

Berly

What did you think about the fact that not only did he suck the grace out of this guy, but then he decided to kill him too. Yeah. I mean. And I think it's so funny, like LA and I aren't together watching this. We just kind of hit play around the same time. And so I texted her, OMG, because Cass just murdered somebody, as far as I saw. I was like, why did you do that? See, I this I thought you were already to Kevin. I know, I figured out after I got to Kevin because whenever you said that, I was just like, huh, I didn't expect her to care so much about Theo.

LA

Well, and I'm so glad I didn't say anything else because I I realized that. Like, I was like, oh my God. I mean, I what if she's not where I think she is at?

Berly

I just thought you really liked Theo for some reason. And that's when I was like, yeah, he was hot, and you know, it was interesting to have him down there being like, listen, like, I'm not into this. I'm just pretending like I am because I want to do whatever's gonna get me back home. So if that means working with you, working with Metatron, and so that's why it kind of surprised me. I mean, yeah, okay, he wasn't gonna be loyal and he might not be useful, but he wasn't gonna be a harm to anybody anymore either, especially once you took his grace.

LA

Well, maybe it was for Mur Muriel.

Berly

Even Metatron healed your neck after taking your grace, Cass, and threw you down to Earth. True. And he just decided, no, fuck this jazz.

LA

I think maybe it's because of what they did to Muriel. He's like, payback.

Berly

Okay, I'll take that. You know, I'll buy that. You hit her so hard you gave an angel a black eye. There's no coming back from that.

LA

Goodbye, Theo. You you gotta go.

Berly

You gotta go. Get out of here.

LA

And I'm gonna take your grace before I do it.

Berly

Yeah. Suck it out, suck it out of you.

LA

And but like what you said to how is that gonna work if it's not actually his? Or is do they all just just it's it's just a grace that you're handed and it just becomes yours?

Berly

I don't know, because whenever he was talking to Dean on the phone, which we're getting way out of order now, he was kind of making it seem like it could be temporary. He was like, I mean, at least for now, like, oh yeah.

LA

So I don't know. So that's what I was gonna say, too. We'll see if maybe we do get human cast back again. Anyway, okay, all that happened. All that went down.

Berly

So much stuff, so much stuff.

LA

All right, back at Bunker Meta Bloods. Dean is asking Kevin where Sam is. He says he went out.

Berly

And then whatever Kevin said, have you noticed he's been doing that a lot lately? I was like, oh damn. Like he Dean didn't even notice. How often has Zeke been just disappearing from the bunker?

LA

Yeah.

Berly

And what's he been doing?

LA

Metatron.

Berly

Meet up with Metatron.

LA

Oh, right?

Berly

I don't know. I think he's been sneak, I think he's been sneaking off for longer than this episode for Kevin to comment on it. You think? I mean, the way Kevin said it, it made me feel like it's been a lot. Anyway. Oh, we forgot something important.

LA

Oh, shocking.

Berly

We forgot something important. Um, I can't remember if it was Theo or Malachi, but one of them was telling Castille before he like got all greased up that a bunch of angels actually died in the fall, and they listed off a bunch of them, and one of those names was Ezekiel. And that's why Cass was like, oh fuck, I gotta get out of here. I gotta go warn my my boyfriend.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

And so that's why Cass is calling Dean, and that's where we're at.

LA

I like that he's like, If there's gonna be a war, you need to be ready. He's like, I got my grace back, I'm ready. What are you doing?

Berly

I'm trying.

LA

What are you doing?

Berly

Okay, I got my grace back. I found out Ezekiel is dead, and you keep telling me Ezekiel healed Sam. So no, Dean, he didn't. He died when he fell. You need to get your shit together.

LA

So naturally, Dean goes to get Kevin. Right.

Berly

That's next. That's just Kevin. Kevin, you need to get our shit together. Yeah, always.

LA

Poor Kevin.

Berly

Oh my god. But I'm not gonna tell you exactly what's happening. I'm just gonna tell you theoretically what I need.

LA

Yeah, the roundabout way he went to Kevin about all that. I was just like, you couldn't just forthright just say what's going on and tell tell the boy.

Berly

And how heart-wrenching is it that he was like, I need you to just trust me, Kev. And Kev was like, I do, and it always ends up screwing me in the end. He wasn't wrong. No, he wasn't. And Crowley told him and his mom that y'all are gonna end up dead.

LA

Yeah, yeah. Just saying. Maybe we need to start listening to Crowley. So Dean is working up this plan with Kevin to try to get G out of Sam. Well, G goes and meets up with Metatron, and he agrees to his plan as his second in command. And they're gonna restore Heaven and his reputation and just heroes, just big ol' heroes, they're gonna be.

Berly

G Dog was just like anything to get me out of that bunker. Hey, I'm sure I'd get it. G-Dog does not want to deal with the brotherly melodramatic stuff anymore. He is like, get me out of here.

LA

That, and I guess he didn't, he wasn't too fond of Kevin.

Berly

I th I I don't know. He didn't seem eager to do that whenever Metatron handed him that piece of paper. He seemed reluctant. But Metatron was just like, sorry, bro, you gotta choose. Fucking Metatron.

LA

So yeah, that's he that's what he tells him that to prove his loyalty, he's gonna start killing the enemies. And he's gotta start with Kevin. Ugh poor, sweet little Kevin.

Berly

Poor baby.

LA

Oh but yeah, he gave the little piece of paper with his name on it. So is that that's just like he's gonna kill each of them and then just put their name tag on them?

Berly

Yeah.

LA

For Metatron? Check mark, yeah. Yeah, okay. Well, Kevin is finishing up this little ritual that him and Dean talked about where uh it's an ignition sick sigil. Sigil. And uh what is it?

Berly

It'll let Dean talk to Sam without Gadrill being able to listen to the conversation.

LA

Right. But unb unbeknownst to those two. Sneaky G.

Berly

Sneaky G is around the corner.

LA

Yeah, listening. So he's not on the plan.

Berly

He goes and fucks up the sigil.

LA

Yeah. I love how his reveal of the little green on his fingers. Oh, if you mess with the sigil, it it won't go through. It doesn't work.

Berly

Again, he's not the most entertaining or dramatic.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

I mean, actually, I should take that back because I was screaming at my television because of that character today.

LA

Well, and I liked Zeke at the beginning.

Berly

I didn't.

LA

It's all for him.

Berly

And here's the thing like they were down there painting those sigils in the dungeon. I just want to see that scene where Crowley's going, What are y'all doing? What's happening? Why are y'all painting?

LA

And he's he's probably like, Did you want to consult me? I'm usually right about things.

Berly

Don't y'all think you should talk to me? Don't you think that I'm gonna be able to help y'all?

LA

Oh, he probably he probably would have seen it coming for Kevin.

Berly

Yep. He would have saved him.

LA

Imagine that. Good old Crowley.

Berly

I will say it still looked cool whenever Sam uh Dean got Sam slash G-Dog down into the archives room. The way the sigil like kind of burned whenever he put his hand on it, that was a cool effect. I liked that.

LA

Oh, so was it green or was it just the like a slight burn on his fingers?

Berly

I couldn't tell if it was green or if it was like ash of some sort. I don't I don't know. It wasn't blood, but Dean had to put his blood on it to activate the sigil.

LA

Yeah, it looked green to me, but now that you're saying I forgot about the burn.

Berly

I thought it was ash. Yeah, I bet you're right. Yeah, it just looked greenish to me. I don't know. It still looks green. And then what did you think? Did you were you like screaming whenever Gadrill was like, I thought I played Sam really convincingly? Like I thought I did good. Did I did I do good? I was like, oh my god. Okay, well, yes. You did. Yes, you did, Gadrill. But oh my god, fuck you. Yeah.

LA

And I'm like very worried. I mean, obviously we're gonna get Sam back, I would think, but what what what what happened what's happening?

Berly

Oh my god. And then yeah, whenever whenever he knocked Dean out and then went upstairs and did that to our poor baby, Kevin. Kevin had no idea it was coming.

LA

I was just like, no, I tell you, I was like casually laying there, like watching. And I'm like, and he go, like when he went toward to Kevin, I was like, what's happening? What's going on? And then a second he put his hand on him, I was like, Yeah. I was like, no, no, that's this isn't real. This isn't happening.

Berly

This isn't happening.

LA

No, and then his eyes, and I was so sad. I was like, no.

Berly

And they even they even let us see the eyes for a second after the light went out. Like they let us see his eyes burned out.

LA

Yeah. Oh, oh my god, and then Dean calling his name.

Berly

Yeah.

LA

Oh, that was heartbreaking.

Berly

And he took those tablets. He took the tablets, all the tablets with him to Metatron. I mean, Metatron wrote them, so I guess it's not gonna be new information to him, but still.

LA

True. Yeah, fucking Ezekiel G is a real motherfucker.

Berly

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. S some people were warning us he was gonna break our heart, and y'all were right.

LA

Yeah, more ways than one.

Berly

Fuck that guy, yeah.

LA

He's been just fooling us all with Sam.

Berly

Mm-hmm.

LA

Took out poor sweet Kevin and then just stole everything and ran away. Yeah, when you texted about the scene before, and I was like, I am not happy they did that.

Berly

Whenever I got to that scene, I was like, oh, she must she must have hit play way before I did. Yeah. And she didn't actually give a shit about Theo.

LA

I absolutely didn't because I was so focused. Well, like, uh because I was ahead of you at that point, and I was just like, I couldn't stop thinking about Kevin. And I was like, I just I can't.

Berly

So sad.

LA

So yeah, that's the terrible ending of this mid-season finale. It was if I cried more, I probably would have cried.

Berly

Because I loved Kevin. I was upset. I I cry a lot, but I I was just shocked. It wasn't it wasn't one of those sad deaths, it was one of those shocking ones. So I didn't I didn't cry about it, but yeah.

LA

Well, I think Dean's reaction, like crying and like calling it Kevin's name like a few times was like, oh yeah, because you know he's gotta feel so guilty.

Berly

Oh god, yeah. Especially because of what Kevin said to him earlier.

LA

Yeah. So this was this was written by Brad Brad Buckner and Eugene, Eugenie Ross Lemming, and directed by Thomas J. Wright.

Berly

All right, so gore. There wasn't a whole lot of gore. I mean, the blood splatter on the Glee women's outfits, but we didn't even see that happen. Like, I don't feel like we can even call that gore because it was just on their outfits after the fact. I mean, Kevin's eyes weren't great. I was gonna say the eyes getting burnt out. I think that that's the goriest thing we can say.

LA

Yeah, I think so.

Berly

Yeah. Not a lot of gore, not a very gore, very lore heavy episode, but not a very gore-heavy episode. Did you adore anything about this episode?

LA

I mean, R.I.P. to Kevin, because I loved Kevin always. Right. But um, I did like Cass. That was hot. As doing the FBI agent. Oh that.

Berly

Cass is Cass is an agent was.

LA

You go back to him being tied up, of course.

Berly

I thought you were I thought you meant tied up, yeah.

LA

Yeah, yeah.

Berly

That was hot. That was hot. I I adored that. I have I have unfortunately more complaints about this episode than than anything else.

LA

Like oh, I thought you were I thought you were gonna say you adored Theo too.

Berly

Well, he was alright. I thought he was cute. I wouldn't have minded if he hung around a little bit, but it wasn't like he had much personality, that Theo, you know?

LA

True. Plus traitor. Yeah. No, no loyalty.

Berly

No loyalty, no loyalty. So yeah. Eh. But I don't know. I uh Metatron turning evil. I just I wanted more from it because his character when we met him loved humans, loved our stories, loved all this stuff, and now all of a sudden he doesn't give a fuck. Like, let them kill each other. I'm just gonna take some funny angels up there with me and I'll be good. Like, I don't know.

LA

He must have been really bored, right? To like just switch.

Berly

Yeah, to just well, uh yeah, to just switch and just decide fuck humanity.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

I just I don't know.

LA

He's like, I fucked with the angels. That wasn't enough fun. I'm bored. Let's go fuck with the the humans.

Berly

I guess so. I guess because like the whole reason he wanted to kick the angels out of heaven is because they didn't respect him, right? He was he was the scribe of God, he expected to be respected more, have more authority. So, you know, I'm gonna go to heaven and fuck around, or not not to heaven, I'm gonna go to earth and fuck around down there, read me some good shit. And then whenever he heard about all this other nonsense going on and them trying to close the gates of hell and everything, that's when he was like, you know what? I guess now's a good time for me to go and get my vengeance on heaven. Okay, okay, I can follow that. Yeah. But yeah, like to your point, like he must have been really bored to decide, like, fuck all those stories that have kept me entertain entertained for hundreds of thousands of years, and fuck all those people who wrote them. And for him to all of a sudden, even though the line was hilarious, for him to all of a sudden be like, oh, emotions, I don't get it. But you loved all these stories all these years. Like, I just Yeah. It just seemed like a different character.

LA

Maybe I mean if he's been up there just alone this whole time, I guess, like I guess maybe solitary confinement, you go a little nutty.

Berly

Maybe he's lost his little bit of humanity that he gained from being down on earth. I don't know. Yeah, I just yeah.

LA

No, I'm with you. It's it doesn't make much sense, but you know.

Berly

Like I love I love me a good villain, but just it seems like he's just completely switched what happened to my book hoarder.

LA

Maybe they'll flesh that out more. I hope so episodes.

Berly

I hope so. Like he's obviously gonna be around.

LA

I totally forgot, not that this is important, but um, you know how we the lore was a Vesta last time on the last episode and all that. I forgot that my great-grandmother on my dad's side was named Vesta.

Berly

Oh, that's cool.

LA

And I was like, I meant to mention that when we were talking about it, but I'm like, I wonder, I'm gonna have to ask my uncle if they it was like because of that goddess that they named her after it, you know?

Berly

Yeah. So I wonder if you have any Roman heritage in your family or if somebody just heard about it and thought it was cool. Because that's not a name you hear very often.

LA

Right. Yeah, I had never I've like when they when I knew about it was from like growing up or whatever, but I've like rarely ever heard it.

Berly

Yeah.

LA

Except for her. So and yeah, I was so excited to like mention that last time when we were talking about it, and I totally forgot.

Berly

I do that all the time. I know. I do that all the time. I normally I'll think of a hilarious joke while we're watching the episode, and then I'll completely forget to bring it up. Well, for today's lore, we're talking about who guarded the Garden of Eden. Oh. According to supernatural lore, one angel in particular, Gadril, had the job before things went sideways. He failed. And that one mistake set off catastrophic chain reactions. The corruption of humanity, Lucifer's fall from heaven, the creation of demons, God's eventual departure, and ultimately the apocalypse. Basically, the entire series traces back to one angel having a super bad day at work. That's real fuck up. Right? Thanks, Gadrill.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

But the biblical lore says that guards were God's response to the fall. You know, after things went wrong. Adam and Eve ate the fruit, got the knowledge, and God said, You get out of here. You get outta here. But he didn't just leave the place unattended. He sent in the cherubim. I don't know if I'm saying that correctly. I think so. But that's what we're going with. Jennifer J bus now that's wrong. Genesis 324 makes it plain. God stationed cherubim at the east entrance of the garden, along with a flaming, spinning sword to guard the way to the tree of life. Multiple Bible translations emphasize this was permanent. No side doors, no loopholes, no sneaking back in through the gift shop. But here's the wild lore twist. Placement of the cherubim at the entrance to the garden blocks re-entry, but actually suggests the expulsion is not permanent. Preservation of the entrance anticipates that a way will be made to regain paradise. The closed door was never the final word. Let's just hope it doesn't require blind obedience again. Now, before you picture those chubby little Valentine's Day angels, absolutely not. Okay, the cherubim are a special group of angels whose most important task is to serve as guardians, preventing fallen humans from re-entering to Eden. And their description in Ezekiel Four faces man, lion, ox, eagle, multiple wings, bodies covered in eyes, moving like flashes of lightning. Oh, cute. Kitty potato. Their job didn't start stop that. Their job didn't stop at the garden either. Their placement over the Ark of the Covenant reiterates Eden Eden. They guard the way to life, and their position atop the atonement cover ties them directly to the place where God's mercy flows. Churabum show up on the ark, woven into the temple veil, carved into the temple wall. Wherever God's holiness needs a bouncer, cherubim are on the door. But in Supernatural, before the flaming sword and the cherubim, there was apparently Godril. One lonely angelic security guard who got played by the devil.

LA

Well, I guess that's why he kind of uh commiserates with Metatron if he was all alone too for a while.

Berly

Yeah, I mean, he said he had been imprisoned for thousands of years, right?

LA

Yeah, yeah. He's like, I get it, dude. Let's do this.

Berly

Yep. So that was the mid-season finale. What are you thinking of season nine so far, LA? Um, I'm alright with it. I mean, I don't like love it or hate it. I like it better than eight so far. I think I do too. Yeah. Yeah. Like, there's just a lot going on, though. And you know, I was saying I was saying this about the boys, I feel like on one of our Crapula's episodes soon, where I was like, they always stick the landing, so I'm not worried about it. And then here I am being worried about it. Because it's just, it's just a lot going on. We've got all the fallen angels everywhere. We've got the two different factions, the Bartholomew and the Malachi. We've got Abaddon running around still. And she Irv apparently told her all the hunters' names. Like he told Sam that whenever they were in that little radioactive town. He straight up said, I gave her all the names. I told them everything. So Abaddon's out there hunting down hunters. We got Crowley in the basement still. Now Metatron and Gadril are like running around doing stuff. And they click-teased us with a Casa Erotica reference, but we still haven't gotten Gabriel yet. And I've been told like three times now he's in this season. Where is he? He's coming. I'm I'm somebody's gonna be. Right? Where's it? Where is it? So it's only episode nine. We've got like a lot more episodes to go. I think it's really weird that the midseason finale is so early, but yeah. All right. I mean, we got it, we got a lot coming up in the second half of that season. I mean, I think so.

LA

I don't want to make any predictions because I don't want to be wrong. But um, I don't know. I'm curious to see how they're going to tie all this up. Like all these different things that are going on.

Berly

Yeah. Like I was totally thinking that the angels were gonna end up helping them defeat Abaddon for some reason, and that they were gonna figure out how to get the angels back in heaven. But now we have Crowley being like, oh, it's it's not reversible. Sorry guys. And Metatron coming down to Earth and being like, Oh, I'm just gonna take a select few. And we haven't seen Abaddon since her episode, I don't think.

LA

Mm-mm. So I'm very curious to see what happens with Zeke and Sam, too. Right? Yeah. Or uh Godrilled Sam, I should say.

Berly

I mean, because I totally thought, oh, Sam's gonna find out, which, you know, there was a scene that made us think that Sam found out, but of course, now we know it was Gadrill just pretending to be Sam, and Sam still doesn't know. So they've still got to let Sam know what the fuck is going on, and how are they gonna do that? Gadrill took all the tablets. Not that they would have been able to do anything with them, anyways, since they took out our little prophet. Yeah. And I I don't I my yeah, my my one theory that the angels were gonna help defeat Abaddon, I don't think that's what's gonna happen now. Like, I don't know what's gonna happen, but I don't think that's it. I'm I'm at a loss as well.

LA

Yeah. I mean, I think Cass will help, maybe.

Berly

Oh, yeah. The only angel. He's the only angel that might help. He's gotta steal grace from other angels, though. Oh, that's right. Remember, he's still curious to see what's gonna go on with that, too. He stole that grace from Theo. There's just so much. There's so much. So much. Well, we are taking a little bit of a pause in season nine for our mid-season bonus episode. So y'all be on the lookout for that next week.

LA

All right. Well, quote to close it out it's from Gadril. Gadril. Gadril. That guy. Sam Winchester. It's a mess in here. And the brother, I do not know where to start.

Berly

Cheers. Cheers. Thank you for listening to Denim Wrapped Nightmares.
