The Great Escapist (8x21)
Berly and LA tackle Supernatural Season 8, Episode 21: "The Great Escapist" - where Dean FINALLY says those magic words: "We should have brought Kevin to the bunker." Berly screamed at her television in vindication.
Kevin's trapped in Crowley's elaborate illusion on a fake houseboat with demon imposters pretending to be Sam and Dean. When his "if you're watching this, I'm dead" video arrives, the hosts are devastated but thrilled Kevin outsmarted the demons - they were "too polite" and didn't use the secret knock.
Meanwhile, Cas evades Naomi's angels by hopping between identical Biggerson's restaurants nationwide. His logic: to an immortal being, all Biggersons look the same. The hosts loved this clever escape strategy and the city-hopping montage. Naomi sends "cutie patootie" angel Ion to stop him, resulting in a Biggerson's massacre with horrifically burned-out eye sockets.
Sam's deteriorating badly - can't shoot straight, keeps passing out, looks terrible. But he recognizes a symbol from Stanford leading them to a Colorado casino hotel where they find Metatron (Curtis Armstrong, not Megatron). The scribe of God has been reading stories for millennia, completely oblivious to heaven's chaos.
The big twist: Crowley shoots Cas and retrieves the angel tablet by rooting around inside his gut - Cas hid it in his body like The Fifth Element! Ion turns out to be a double agent before Cas kills him by shoving the angel blade bullet in his eye.
Metatron saves Kevin from Crowley, reveals the third trial is "curing a demon," and the episode ends with bloody Cas appearing in the road asking for help. The hosts loved seeing Kevin cleaned up and confident, appreciated the Biggerson's escape logic, and were satisfied with finally getting answers about the trials.
"What you brought to this earth, all the mayhem, the murder, just the raw, wild invention of God's naked apes. It was mind-blowing."

Welcome to Dina Wrapped Nightmares, Tipsy Exchange podcast, where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.
LA:Over drinks, we'll discuss the lore, the gore, and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures. I'm Burley, and I'm a new fan of the series. I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy.
Berly:Hello, LA. Hey Burley. Last episode was titled Pac-Man Fever. Concerned about the physical toll of the second trial, Dean benches Sam from hunting until he heals up. So when geekastic hacker Charlie, guest star Felicia Day, stumbles upon a case and finds the boys, Dean decides it's time to teach Charlie how to be a hunter. While happy to see Her Highness, that was cute that they kept referring to her as that. And it was cute when she was like, Are y'all gonna be at the Jamboree? And they were like, Yeah, we'll be there, wouldn't miss it. I was like, Aw, oh, that's cute. They still play Moondor on occasion. That's adorable. But anyway, after all that, uh, the boys suspect that Charlie is hiding something. She's acting off. And they suspect it's a secret that could get her killed. It wasn't her secret, it was the Jen, really. Yeah. Like, let's not blame her secret. I mean, sure, the gen used that as a weapon against her, but damn. Come on. Anyway, that was last week's episode. Or not last week. Last episode.
LA:This week's episode is titled The Great Escapist. It's the 21st episode of season eight, and it aired on May 1st, 2013. Starts with Kevin on the boat. He's get he was woken up by a horn at first, and then somebody's banging on the door, and he very timidly starts to walk toward the door. I have a question about this too. So he looks like shit, by the way. He does, yes, yes. And uh I think it's Dean, or one of them yells, it's it's us, like let us in. And so he opens the door and he sprays Dean with holy water and then Sam, and he's like, What's the point of a secret knock if you're not gonna use it? But how did they get past the holy water?
Berly:I'm guessing they replaced it with regular water because like that wasn't even really the boat, was it? Because the boat, whenever it was well, when we saw the boat at the end of the last episode, the windows had been shattered and everything. They repaired the windows and redid all the I was where would he be? I thought it was like a magical because whenever the guys came walking out, they were like in a theater. So I thought it was some sort of magical pocket dimension where they just recreated everything for Kevin. Oh, I must that maybe I got real imaginative about everything. But when we last when we last saw the boat, though, it was completely trashed, remember? And they had taken they had taken everything. They took all the notes and they took everything, and the windows were all smashed out. So I thought this was like a creation of Crowley's somehow.
LA:Oh, okay.
Berly:Sure. I I just didn't get that. Okay. For some reason in my mind, it would have been a lot less work to invent magic that would recreate this in a pocket dimension weird thing on the stage of an abandoned theater. Then that would be less work than going and like repairing the boat and moving everything back in.
LA:Okay.
Berly:That's where that's where my head is at.
LA:Okay. Okay. Well, I guess that would explain the holy water then. Because I was like, well, they're they end up being demons. How did they not burn up when he sprayed them? So okay.
Berly:Yeah, I think they switched, I think they switched it out. And Carly said something at some point in the episode about how he can't erase Kevin's short-term memory again. That that's too risky a move. Oh, yeah, yeah. So, like they they snatched him and he called Naomi and was like, hey girl, can you come help us real quick? I'm just kidding, that didn't happen because she wants them to close the gates of hell. He borrowed her manual and used that to erase Kevin's memory and then borrowed the Jen's manual to create a nightmare land for Kevin to live in.
LA:And that's how it happened. All right then. I'm already screwing this up. Jesus. Okay, well, I guess that explains my question. Um, anyway, they he lets them in and they find or they give him the other half of the demon tablet. And he immediately sits down and starts translating, and they're like kind of pushing, oh, don't you need to go get the other half that you that you hid? And he's like, Oh no, no, no, no, no need. And uh so he's I have all my notes. I don't need yeah, yeah. Um, so he gets to work, they walk off the boat, and they walk through this like bubble water portal thing, and they turn into two different people who look a lot younger than the guys, by the way. Um, anyway, they walk into this rundown theater and Crowley's sitting there with a bunch of TVs just watching everything that's going on with Kevin. I like oh, and he gets he gets onto them because I think like the Sam, the fake Sam was being too much like Dean, and he wanted them to be more authentic. And uh I forget what he said. It was whatever, however, he phrased it was funny, but I can't remember what it was.
Berly:I liked after he walked away, he was like, I was born to direct. Like he was really into this.
LA:Oh, yeah. I liked it later on when he was saying like if he wasn't orchestrating everything, he could have been Dean. Yeah. And the guy's like, Oh, you would have been a great.
Berly:You would have been so good.
LA:So that's the beginning. And then we're back at at our bunker, the Men of Letters bunker. Sam is still not doing well. Oh yeah, he looked like shit too. Yeah, yeah. Uh Dean had fixed him their dad's famous kitchen sink stew and was bringing brought over on a little tray taking care of his little sick brother. I liked that if he he asked him, uh, do you want me to do the airplane with the spoon too? Yeah. Like to feed him.
Berly:I liked it when he was like, How long has it been since you've eaten eaten? And Sam, he kind of went a little bit diva.
LA:He was like, Yeah, yeah.
Berly:I was like, that's me. That's me, and that's my manager. Whenever I start getting snippy, and I'm like, and then this deadline, it when did you eat? I haven't yet today. It's like, oh, okay.
LA:Like hangry is a real thing.
Berly:Yeah, it is. But yeah, he said it'd been days, and I was like, damn.
LA:Yeah. They're both getting irritated with each other. Like Dean's being too mothering. Sam wants him to back off. Sam is clearly not doing well and not accepting it very well.
Berly:Right.
LA:Um, but he does make mention that he's not, it's not that he's sick, sick, it's that it's these trials, they're changing something in him. Um, so it's not like he this bowl of soup is gonna cure him. Yeah. Make him feel better. It's not like he can sleep it off, you know. Right. Yeah. So then they get an email after their little bickering session, and it is from Kevin. It's a video file, and poor Kevin is telling them that he made this video, that if he didn't do some like kill switch thing every week, that then this video would be sent to them, which means he's dead, and he's not happy about it. He yells at them in the video. Good for him.
Berly:Yeah, it's about time, right? Uh, did you think of Frank whenever this happened? I did.
LA:Oh no, I didn't.
Berly:Remember, that's how we found out officially Frank was dead. Was his thing did the same thing?
LA:Oh well, Dean's pissed. He walks off and like throws something and is all mad. And did you hear what he said? Uh-uh. He said we should have brought him here. Oh, well, I was getting to that. Oh, okay. Because yeah, I was I was like, Are you fucking kidding me? Right.
Berly:The scream I scrummed at my television whenever that happened.
LA:Yeah, so they sat down, or Sam sits down and starts going through all the stuff that they took from the boat, like you mentioned.
Berly:Yeah, the files that well, no, they didn't take it. Kevin emailed it all to them. The demons have everything. That's right. The physical copies. But Kevin was like, I scanned everything and sent it to you. Yeah. He was really busy while Crowley was messing with his brain.
LA:Yeah.
Berly:Because he says on there, like, you know, Crowley got me, I guess. If um, so I'm wondering, like, when did he start taking those measures? I don't know. Regardless, justifiably pissed, Kevin. Oh, yeah, yeah. And yet he still took care of business. Did you it hurt my heart whenever he was like, I know it was my job, and I'm sorry. I just couldn't have to say that too. Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry.
LA:That's okay. No, but yeah, like I thought that was really sad that he apologized to them that he didn't finish what he was supposed to do. And it's like, I think you've given enough, buddy. Yeah. You know? But yeah, when they're so when Sam's going through all that, that's yeah, like you said, Dean says we should have brought him here.
Berly:I was like, now, yeah, now that he's gone, we we realize that the thought across your mind.
LA:Yeah. Like, are you f I was just like, I was like, ridiculous. Like just appalled by them.
Berly:I really don't understand how they were enjoying those digs and like showing them all to Charlie and like setting up their bedrooms and like literally and going and visiting him in the boat and seeing the condition, and it just never it didn't cross their minds until now.
LA:Yeah, yeah.
Berly:Just um well, I think you're right though. I think they were just being a tinge bit selfish and it just wasn't crossing their minds. Yeah, like honestly.
LA:Well, and I mean, you know, in a way, I can't blame them just because they never had that, they've never had a place of their own, and like they said, like rooms and all that, but you know, you kind of needed him around and needed to keep him safe, so but you know, too late, too little too late. Uh next we're at a Biggerson's restaurant with Castie L.
Berly:He's sitting there tucking his messed up hair again. Yeah, yeah. I haven't seen him that messed up since his introduction, I don't think. Really? Yeah, his tie was really loose and his hair was all sloppy. Oh. He was kind of looking like barn doorcast to me, if you know. He's going through a lot of wink wink.
LA:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, he's this he's there sitting there chatting with the little waitress, some nonsense stuff, and talking about coffee. And he orders food and then the table starts to shake. And he's like, Oh, they're they're getting closer now. The angels are after him. And so he disappears, which really freaks out one of the employees, and he's like searching under the table for him. Like he's like, I just he just disappeared.
Berly:I don't know. I liked that the manager came over and was helping him look.
LA:Yeah, yeah. And then he asked him if he's on drugs or something. Then we switched to Naomi, and she's talking with an angel Ion, who was actually pretty cute. He was a cutie patootie. I liked him, yeah. I did too.
Berly:He he he didn't like look like him, but he reminded me of Patrick, the Irish, Irish witch guy from like season four. He reminded me of him, Hal Oz San. He's a hottie.
LA:Well, hottie, hottie, hottie toddy. I enjoyed him. I he could have been around a little more.
Berly:Agreed. And when we get to that, I have questions.
LA:Okay. So yeah, so Naomi is sending Ion um out. He well, he tells her about Castiel's trick of being he's basically going from Biggersons to Biggersons all over the country, escaping them, so they can't figure out where he's gonna go next to which one. And so the that's why they were getting close. So then he like he disappeared and went to another one.
Berly:Which actually makes sense when he was saying it's their sameness. Like, imagine you're this entity that is immortal, as old as time. You've seen the world grow in a blink of an eye, you can be in Rome, and in another blink, you can be in Australia, like just whatever. So just think how massive, how grand scale that is. And whenever you look at it through that lens, like, yeah, it would be fucking hard to tell the Biggersons in Colorado from the Biggers in Maine, you know? So I I liked that. I thought that was cute and clever. And I loved the montage where it showed him like yeah, just the background changing and us and it telling us which city he's in. I thought that was really cool too.
LA:Yeah. So he's he's tricky, he's got tricks up his sleeve, that Castel.
Berly:You know what else he did?
LA:What?
Berly:I think he watched the fifth element while he was on that bus. Why? And then he was like, Oh my god, that's a really good idea. The stones are in me.
LA:Oh, yeah. There you go. Okay. Yeah, okay, okay. Well, Naomi's pissed, and she says, Well, if you can't catch him, you're gonna have to stop him. Right. So she sends Ion, and then some other guy that ends up going with him that I don't think I ever got his name. He's never he's never really acknowledged. He's just there to help Ion. Uh, but yeah, so they go to that first Biggersons that we saw Castillo at and they kill everybody. And the poor waitress, they have burned her eyes out so badly that they're just like black char and they're still smoking.
Berly:Yeah. Yeah. It reminded me of uh, do you remember in the episode when Anna got her grace back and turned back into an angel and then exploded out of her vessel? And how she was like yelling, like, close your eyes, close your eyes. And so I was just like, that must be what they did is they came in there and just burst out of their vessel in their true form and just fucking obliterated everybody. And she must have gotten a good enough look to get fucked, but not killed. Right.
LA:Because it well, I think they left her like that because she was lit just repeating you have to. She was the messenger, yeah. The messenger. Uh so terrible, poor woman. Right. And Castile goes to, you know, put her out of her misery, but then Ion and his buddy stop him. Back at the bunker, Sam realizes that he recognizes one of these symbols in Kevin's notes, and he remembers it from his humanities class, his Stanford days, which throat. Yeah, as I was watching it, I was I thought to myself, I like it's been so long that I forgot he even went to college and had that life before all this, you know. Right.
Berly:I didn't remember stuff from my college class from the semester before while I was like still in school, you know. So good on him for seeing a picture. Maybe he has like photographic memory, like a touch of it there. Maybe, maybe.
LA:Because yeah, he uh goes into their library and gets a book on um, he said that that the humanities was like a over I can't talk the that in that class that it was an overview of Native American art, and that the symbol was, I think it was like a marker for he I think he mentioned that a bunch of the other tribes had fallen to the white man, but this particular tribe didn't, and they marked their territory with this symbol, and it was basically translated to messenger of God um or Metatron. And Sam Sam, of course, he's like, Let's go. We need to go there. We need to go to there and see what's going on. And of course, Dean's saying, you know, you can barely get around. How are we gonna do it? And to Sam's credit, he's like, Well, I'm only gonna get worse, right? So might as well.
Berly:Doesn't matter where I am, we may as well be productive.
LA:Exactly. So they go to Colorado to this um like casino hotel place.
Berly:Did they say the name of the tribe, or it was just I don't think they did.
LA:I don't think they did either. I would have written that down or remembered. Okay. Because I I liked that they pulled the Native American stuff into the episode. I wish that they could have gone a little deeper, you know. Agreed like that. Agreed. Um, and I really liked the uh clerk at the front desk who didn't say a word to them. I like when Dean Dean says, uh, we need to get a room. And the guy just sits there and Dean's like, here. Like, here is at this establishment.
Berly:Um well after we meet Metatron and we see what they've been having to do to cater to this guy, he was probably just like another fucking white man. Like true, true.
LA:But as uh Dean's checking in, Sam wanders over to this other room and it it's it's the whole I I guess he had that probably like the GoPro on him where shaky when he's walking, you know? It was cool, and that yeah, and then he's his vision's really blurring in and out, and he hears something. We don't hear it. Dean doesn't hear it.
Berly:It's the that they do at the beginning after the supernatural ringing type sound.
LA:Yeah, so he he asks if Dean heard it, and Dean, of course, did not and thinks he's crazy. Um lovingly, though. Lovingly thinks he's crazy. Yes, yeah, yeah. Oh, it's the two rivers tribe leader. Oh, okay, there we go. That's what, yeah, yeah. Because so they go to the room, Dean decides that he's gonna go to this Native American museum that's nearby um to talk to the Two Rivers tribe leader, and he goes over there and he talks about how the mester of god Metatron um uh requested offerings of stories from the people. As he's at the museum, Sam he looks so bad. He's like talking like he's drunk.
Berly:I was just like, poor boy.
LA:He stumbles down the hallway and like at one point, the one point where he like jumped over and hid, he looked so much like shit. His face, I was like, Good god, man, yeah, go to bed. But he sees the front desk clerk like taking in all these books, the these packages and things, or yeah, no, no, no, they're packages, into this room, and he kind of sneaks over there and and opens them, and it's a ton of books that they're delivering to this room. He runs, well, stumbles back to the room, goes to call Dean and just passes out, like clonks down on the floor. Jared Patalaki did great.
Berly:Like he did stumbling around on occasion. I love him. Okay, so Jared fans don't come for me. I love him. I over-exaggerate everything. Ask LA if I'm telling her a story and it involves me making a phone call. If I don't have my phone handy to be my prop to demonstrate to her that I'm on said phone call, I'm using the palm of my hand, like I'm dialing and holding it up. Like I am the queen of overacting. But on occasion, he can be a little bigger than I think is ultimately necessary for some scenes.
LA:I guess I could see that.
Berly:However, with this scene in particular, it really put you in that space where he's at, that he's like kind of out of control and desperately trying to achieve something and just wobbling around and like and with the camera, what they did with the camera as well. Um, it called for it in this in this particular scene to really tell the story. So he fully committed, man. Like, I wouldn't be surprised. We've seen him faceplant more than once. I wouldn't be surprised if it he really just like won't like yeah face planted the way he did. I mean, the eyes rolling back. I mean, all of it. It was great.
LA:He was out. Mm-hmm. Then we're back at Bickgerson's and Naomi, whoo, she's not happy. And she has not seen the fifth element. She has not. She did not figure it out. Nope. But she snaps the poor lady's neck that uh her eyes are burned out. She's like, swings a chair over, sits with Castell. They've obviously been torturing him, just a tad, you know. He's beaten a little. She's trying to get him to tell her where this damn tablet is, the angel tablet. However, Crowley shows up and he shoots Ion's buddy. Yeah, we never got his name. Yeah. Okay. He's he's out of there now. He wasn't real important, I guess. And he explains that his I love that he says my RD department uh melted down the uh angel blade and made bullets.
Berly:Yeah.
LA:Which I was like, okay, good idea, I guess, in theory, but I think the blade is more useful, you know. I don't know.
Berly:Yeah, I guess you have to get in close proximity and risk getting smited and the bullets.
LA:Like, can you use the bullet again? You do you pull it out and then make another one?
Berly:You're gonna have to go get more angel. Maybe he just needed it for this one mission. He just wanted to be dramatic. Yeah. I I think that's probably the safest bet. Yeah. Now, speaking of dramatic, Naomi, oh my god. Oh, I know. You came off the line with a cracked chassis and like you can't even die right. I was like, damn.
LA:I know. She's just like, you're you're there, you're just wrong, Castile. There's something wrong with you.
Berly:Right? I was like, holy shit. Yeah, she's she's not messing around. Yeah. What happened to this lady from last week that was all like, you can just I told you.
LA:It could be helpful.
Berly:Yeah. Let me help you. And now this week it's like you don't die, right? Like, I was like, damn. God, Naomi, change your prescription, girl.
LA:Right? She ends up taking off to get away from Crowley. But Crowley's.
Berly:I liked her lighting up though. I liked that she lit up like she was going to do something.
LA:But she said, I'm out of here, Crowley. She's like, I'm already dealing with Castell. I don't want to deal with you right now, too. I'm out. She didn't want to take a bullet. Castell does though. And then we realize that Mr. Cutie Ion has actually been working as a double agent for the angels and Crowley. So sorry, Naomi. Then we go back to the hotel, and Dean had found Sam on the floor. And I think he said his which he said his temperature was 107. And I was thinking, how'd you get that temperature if he was passed out? Very carefully. I guess so. At the bed. No, no. But he has thrown him into an ice bath. He's like, you know what? It's time we start doing this. Taking the ice plunge, you know.
Berly:It's good for you. It regulates your nervous system.
LA:Yeah, I should do it. But anywho. Sam comes to and says that he can make sense of or he can feel that Metatron's there. Like he knows he's nearby, he's in the hotel, he's somewhere, and they need to get him. They need to find him. He sees that ice bath seemed to give him a lot of energy because he's like ready to go find him.
Berly:Yeah.
LA:Like I said, it resets your nervous system. Yeah. Gave him a good energy rush. Well, back to Castell. He's bleeding after Crowley shot him in the gut. And Crowley said that he starts talking to him saying he thought about how when Naomi had before sh before Castell got the tablet, Naomi had that hold over him. And he thought he thought to himself, you know, why would Castell ever get rid of the tablet? Because then she would be able to have the hold back on over him. So he knows where Castell has kept this tablet and just reaches right into his gut to get it out. Crowley has seen the fifth element. Clearly. Yeah. So he knew. Yeah. Yeah. So he pulls the big old tablet from Castile's gut, Castell's wound, and painfully removes the tablet from within the angel's body.
Berly:I mean, I don't think there was a way to do that, not painfully. Oh, yeah, no. I'm sure it was painful going in. Right. I mean, he's an angel. He don't need those organs.
LA:Yeah, true.
Berly:It's probably just like compressed up in there. It's probably why all he was doing was coffee.
LA:The fake demon salmon dean call and reveal that Kevin tricks them into walking under a devil's trap, which I thought was funny because Kevin told them he was really hungry and sent them on a lunch run, a very detailed lunch run. Garlic mashed potatoes, not regular.
Berly:I mean, uh, that order sounded good. Barbecue, garlic mashed potatoes, pad thai.
LA:Yeah.
Berly:Yeah. Go Kev. You deserve it, honey.
LA:He does. But Kevin's been making all kinds of tricks and plans because yeah, he sent them out, got them trapped in a devil's trap because he kind of figured out that that's not his salmon team. And then so back at the hotel with the guys, they go down toward that hotel room that was being or was having the deliveries come to it from the mute clerk. Handsome mute clerk. Yes. Oh, I forgot how um Sam starts remembering like uh stuff from their childhood. Oh, yeah. I forgot about that because that was pretty funny when he was talking about the story where Dean had the mule that kept farting and some comic book that they had when they were younger and he Oh, that was sad. It was a little heartbreaking. He just remembered that it was like he was never couldn't be the knight because he wasn't good and pure like the knight was, right?
Berly:Yeah.
LA:Like he said he he was he just always knew he was unclean, and I was like, oh but he thinks that all this that's going as he's going through the trials, what's changing is that it's uh cleansing him from the uh uncleanliness, from the demon blood, from what his Hazel did to him as a little baby. Yeah, yeah. And so he did get that in that little scene too, because that was that was kind of sad.
Berly:It was I teared up. I teared up. It was it was heartbreaking. Wait back to the clerk. I forgot to bring this up when they were in the whenever Dean was in the museum and and finding out about Metatron, and he saw that really old picture of the tribe, and the clerk was standing in the picture, and he was like, Yeah, like I can guess what the what the benefits are of you guys keeping him around like and keeping him happy. I loved it because it was like the exact same facial expression that he gave Dean whenever Dean was trying to talk to him. Uh-huh. It was the exact same facial expression in that picture, and I thought that was a really nice touch.
LA:Yeah, yeah. I forgot about that. Yeah. They go to seek out that that room, and that is where they find books stacked upon books upon books all over the place. It was cool. And I thought it looked cool. And there's this kind of older man just shotgun ready, pointing it right at him. And they realize that this is Metatron, and he doesn't he doesn't know anything about the windshield. He doesn't know anything except for his books. He has no idea what's been going on on the outside world because he's just after all this knowledge. He the he likes these stories, so all he's been doing is reading. They're a little pissy with him.
Berly:Right.
LA:For that, for that fact that, you know, you know, Kevin's dead because you're just in here reading.
Berly:Yep.
LA:Not taking care of things. And we switch back to Castiel, and he is with uh cutie patootie eye on again. He takes out he removes the bullet from his own abdomen. Wow, okay. Oh, after we already had a hand in there, I guess pulling the bullet out's probably not that. Nothing, yeah.
Berly:There's like a little flapp of skin. Let me just dig around a little bit there, no problem. We see Crowley, he was pissed that he got the upper hand back back to did we see him kill Ion yet?
LA:Oh yeah, no, it doesn't say that, and I forgot.
Berly:Okay. So, but this is the point where I have the question, right? So Castell, like poor Ion, also first of all, is like trauma dumping on Castell about how like he hasn't been getting his memory wiped, he remembers everything. And like having PTSD, and then Castell goes and tackles him and holds him down on the floor and then shoves the bullet in his eye.
LA:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Berly:Okay, and this kills Ion. And the bullet that Carale shot earlier into he who was not named, that killed him, and Naomi fled because she didn't want to get shot with that bullet. Why didn't the bullet kill Castille? Why is it whenever Castell was fighting fighting that one angel all those seasons ago, like just the tip, he just got nicked a little bit and it did nothing. And like, but he can sh-like he got shot and it did nothing.
LA:Is it because he had the tablet in him?
Berly:Oh, maybe I didn't think about that. Otherwise, it couldn't make any sense. I was gonna complain about like I need some more consistency with the magical weapons here. It does it kill somebody if it pierces into you, period. End of story. And if so, why has Castie L survived it twice now? But uh You can't die right, okay? Oh, that's right. I forgot. This is all. Already been established. Okay, you're right. I'm sorry. That is correct. Okay. I'm good. We can move on. You can't even do that right, okay?
LA:Uh, but yeah, no, good point. And that's the only thing I can think, is maybe because of the tablet, but who knows? Cowley? Crowley kicks in the door of where Kevin's at, and Kevin's cleaned up.
Berly:Yeah, he all of a sudden looks fantastic.
LA:He's I like his attitude.
Berly:He doesn't have the bags under his eyes anymore.
LA:Like he's like, he's not giving any fucks anymore. He's like, I've got this shit. He looks great. Yeah. I was like, oh, okay. And he's not scared of Crowley at all. Not one bit. Uh, in fact, he's kind of like smirking when he comes in. I got a kick out of it. I got a kick out of it. I was like, it's about time. Good for Kevin. Yeah. He's just doing his thing and I like it. And he tells Crowley that he figured it out that the fake uh demons weren't the Winchesters, pretty much from the get-go when they didn't do the secret knock. That whole exchange between those two, I was I was excited for Kevin finally getting cleaned up.
Berly:And Crowley, Crowley's face when he was like, So you knew because my demons were too nice.
LA:Yeah, they were too polite.
Berly:Because they went and got you all that food. Yeah, well, it was I loved that scene. I did too. And um, whenever he grabbed Kevin and shoved him up against the wall and lifted him up off the ground, I'm always curious, like, how did y'all do that? Did Mark Shepherd bend his knees? Like, how did y'all do that? I'm I'm always curious about that kind of thing. So yeah, that's something I'll just have to wonder about myself for a while here. How they did that. But I liked how Metatron came through and like kind of possessed Kevin.
LA:Yeah. And burned the shit out of Crowley.
Berly:Burnt the shit out of Crowley, yeah.
LA:Knocked him down. Very cool, very cool. In all this time where Metatron's been doing nothing but reading, at least he did he saved Kevin after all.
Berly:Yeah. Sam and Dean Giltripped into stepping up to the plate and saving the prophet.
LA:But yeah, so back with Megatron and the guys. Uh Metatron, Metatron. Am I saying Megatron?
Berly:You said Megatron that time. Yeah.
LA:Metatron, not Megatron. Uh says that what's happening to Sam his in this current state that he's going through with all this stuff changing him for the trials is um his what is it? Didn't he say resonating or something like that? Resonance. Resonance.
Berly:Yeah, he's resonating. He's resonance, yeah.
LA:His proximity to the word of God and the near completion of the trials. And he explains that how he went into hiding after God disappeared, and the archangels began mismanaging the universe in his absence.
Berly:Gabriel mentioned, oh what? So Gabriel mentioned, Raphael mentioned.
LA:They were?
Berly:Yeah. Whatever. Metatron had the gun. He was like, You work for Michael or Lucifer. And they were like, no, we put them, we put them in that box. And then he was like, well, then Raphael or Gabriel. And they were like, did. And I was like, oh, but they're not. I hope that neither of them are. We know that one of them comes back. I hope they both do. Yeah, we'll see. I'll want them both back.
LA:So since uh Metatron rescued Kevin, um, he questions Dean if he understands the consequences of the trials and closing the gates of hell. But yeah, they so they have this whole conversation while Kevin's still out um about all these consequences that are happening because of what they're doing. So Kevin luckily missed out on that. But he does cut wake up and he tells them that he was able to recover half of uh Crowley's demon tablet that he took. Yeah, the other half. Yeah, he got it. And uh then that's when Metatron says, so he's like, we can get ready for the third trial, and Metatron just goes ahead and lets them know that the third trial is curing the curing of a demon, which that doesn't get explained.
Berly:And they didn't finish the conversation about the consequences either, right? Because Kevin Kevin came too and they just changed, changed the subject. We'll come back to those consequences later, I guess.
LA:They're like the child's awake. Let's let's let's table this for now.
Berly:We'll talk about this later.
LA:They're not really sure how they're gonna do this next trial, but they take off. Sam and Dean are in the car driving, and all of a sudden, screeching to a halt because bloody cast yells in the middle of the road asking for help.
Berly:Yeah, he's like a little help, please. Can you give me a hand? And then it ends. It was a lot. This was Ben Edlin's last episode.
LA:He was like, Oh yeah, let's go all out. Right?
Berly:Mm-hmm.
LA:Uh so yeah, like you said, this was written by Ben Edland, directed by Robert Duncan McNeil, who directed only one other episode on Supernatural, which was Skin. Season one, do you remember that?
Berly:The first shape shifter scene where Dean took off his shirt and was like, mm-hmm. Two very different episodes totally. Right? This director came and did like the ultimate horror with like body horror and everything, and then came and was like, let's do something more lighthearted this time. You'd think they'd want to bring him back for something kind of similar, but right? Well, I mean, as we've been told by multiple directors who we've spoken to, like they don't really get to pick. They kind of it's kind of the lucky draw there. So but that's interesting that that that it's those two. I don't think there was really any gore. Well the woman's biggest, yeah.
LA:The massacre at Biggersons.
Berly:I guess we could count a massacre as gore. I guess that makes sense. I guess it qualifies. And I mean, just the idea of that bullet getting shoved in there and Cassio's Cassio's stomach. I mean, again, I'm this is probably just like what it was that Benson told us about with the latex tummy and all of that kind of stuff.
LA:That's what immediately what I thought of when I was watching it.
Berly:Like been here done that. We we know what we're doing. But when we saw Cass uh reach into Sam's torso to fish out the soul, I feel like Crowley really got in there more.
LA:He was like fishing around.
Berly:He was rooting around in there a lot more. So I thought that was kind of fun.
LA:Yeah.
Berly:Um, and it didn't move, so they had it like on something solid because it really seemed like Mark Shepherd was really rooting around in there. Yeah. So that was that was pretty cool gore. Not not a super gory episode, though. No, no. Did you adore anything about this episode?
LA:I really like we were just saying, I really liked when Kevin finally came into his got cleaned up. He's got his confidence back, he's got his attitude. I really, I I really enjoyed seeing him like that because he's been such a fucking mess for so long. Poor baby. Yes. I know. I was like, you go, Kevin. Yeah. Just put stick it to Crowley.
Berly:I I love that Crowley's nemesis is a high school AP student. I know, I know, yeah. And and that he's like, he knows it. He knows that he is Crowley's Achilles Hill or whatever for whatever reason. And I just I love their little dynamic. Yeah. You know, like I anytime we get to see Crowley and Kevin interact with each other, you know it's gonna be a good time. I mean, the first time we saw it toward the beginning of the season, I did complain. It was still cute and I still enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but it just didn't seem like Crowley because he was just doing dumb stuff, like letting Kevin go in the back and then, oh, what's he doing? And walking, you know, just he's not doing that so much anymore. Um, it's like he's really trying to control Kevin. And so he doesn't want to kill Kevin, he wants to control him. He wants Kevin to do what he wants him to do. And that episode where they had the other prophets and Crowley just being like, This, this is what I have to work with. Like, even though Kevin is his Achilles heel, that's the prophet that Crowley wants to use. He doesn't want to kill Kevin and have to deal with one of those other assholes. He wants to use Kevin. I don't know. Their dynamics are adorable. So I agree with you. That ending scene there between the two of them. Yeah. Brief but sweet. It was really cute. I enjoyed it. What's your adore? I enjoyed the clerk at the hotel too. He had no lines, but it just and then the picture, I just thought that was funny. And then seeing Curtis Armstrong. I mean, I do wonder why. If the angel comes down, he's on the run, the angel comes down to this Native American tribe. I am kind of like, why wasn't Metatron a Native American then? Like, wouldn't he wouldn't he have a chance? I was wondering. Yeah. You would think he would have possessed a Native American body. Right. But instead, he possessed some white man that was nearby, I guess. So that's my only thought is I was like, I mean, that could have been another Native American actor. But I mean, with that being said, again, I love Curtis Armstrong. Good old booger. He's a huge feminist. So that's gonna have a special place in my heart. What about that lore? We're talking about Metatron. No, you don't say. Oh my god. Don't you know it? Don't you know it? Let's find out more about this Transformer from Gaia Inc. I'm reading an article titled Who is Archangel Metatron and how does he manifest? I'll let Gaia know that um he's not a he's not an archangel. Curtis Armstrong, Curtis Armstrong said so. All right, so Archangel Metatron is known as one of the most powerful and closest archangels to humanity. His role includes overseeing the Akashic Records. I assume that has something to do with the vampire queen Akasha. Clearly. From Anne Rice's stuff, you know? Yeah. Um, I didn't Google it. His role includes overseeing the Akashic Records and assisting in the process of spiritual ascension. In this article, we explore who Metatron is, his significance, and how he manifests in our lives. Okay. Metatron is considered one of the only two archangels who were once human, having been, he was the prophet Enoch before his ascension. Maybe that's why he had a little special place in his heart for Kevin, because he used to be a prophet himself. His transformation into a celestial being grants him a special connection with humanity, serving as a bridge between heaven and earth. Metatron is often described as the scribe of God, tasked with documenting every event in the universe and guiding souls through their spiritual evolution. Hey, Metatron, where are you at, bro? I need some help. Okay. We will get to that later as to how we can like summon him and stuff. He represents divine wisdom and pure light, helping individuals release negative patterns and raise their vibration. Again, hey, bro.
LA:Yeah. Yeah. We need you.
Berly:Metatron is also known for his association with sacred geometry, hence the cool symbols with the circles and stuff. Which he uses in order to bring chaos. Oh, wait, sorry. He uses to bring order to chaos. Okay. I was like, wait a minute. And manifest balance in all things. His energy is powerful and transformative, inviting those who invoke him to align with their true purpose and advance on their spiritual path. Yeah, I really need him. Right. Well, the name Metatron has various interpretations in spiritual traditions. It is commonly translated as the one who occupies the throne next to God's throne. That's really long. The big deal. Or I like this one, the angel of presence. Hello, okay, okay. These definitions highlight his elevated status and closeness to the divine, emphasizing his crucial role as an intermediary between God and humanity. Okay, so back to the Akashic Records. Metatron is known as the guardian of the Akashic Records, a vast collection of information about all souls and their experiences throughout time.
LA:Okay, so it has nothing to do with Akasha the vampire. So it's like when the CIA has their list of all the their codex of all their agents.
Berly:Yeah, but this is but this is divine. This is a divine one. Okay. Sorry. These records are essential for understanding life purpose and spiritual lessons. Metatron facilitates access to these records, providing guidance and clarity to those seeking to understand their spiritual path and resolve pending karma. Oh to the good stuff. All right. What we really need. Yeah. How to invoke and work with Archangel Metatron. To invoke and work with Archangel Metatron, it is essential to set a clear intention and create a sacred space. This can be achieved through meditation, prayer, or specific rituals that facilitate connection with his powerful energy. By doing so, Metatron can provide guidance, protection, and wisdom, helping to manifest a life aligned with divine purpose. So how? Prayer is number one. An effective way to commit connect with Metatron is through prayer, requesting his presence and guidance in times of need. A simple prayer can be, Archangel Metatron, I invoke you at this moment. Wasn't that in the craft? Please, please surround my being with your divine light and guide me on my spiritual path. Help me release any negative energy and raise my vibration towards love and light. Do you do you let me just try to interrupt you? You don't want me to invoke Metatron. No, I was gonna say, do you think you just invoked him by reading that? I don't feel my vibrations rising, so I don't think I did. Well, maybe it takes a little bit. Maybe I need a candle or something. Let's see here. Meditation. Meditation is another powerful tool for connecting with Metatron. Visualize the Metatron's cube surrounding you. I'm gonna have to Google this cube. As you breathe deeply and focus on your intention. Allow the energy of the cube to harmonize your being and connect you with the highest frequencies of the universe. This practice can help you gain clarity, peace, and a deeper connection with your spiritual purpose. Last but not least, rituals and other spiritual practices. Rituals are an effective way to invoke Metatron's presence and work with his energy. A simple ritual can include lighting a white candle.
LA:Ah look at you. Look at that.
Berly:Burning incense, and placing a sacred geometry symbol on your altar. As you perform this ritual, you can recite a prayer or mantra that connects you with Metatron's energy and request his guidance and protection. Another spiritual practice is creating a mandala. Where is it mandala? Mandala, right? Mandala, yeah. Using sacred say sacred geometry patterns, such as the Metatron's cube. I gotta I gotta get me this cube. Yeah. Drawing or coloring this mandala can be an active meditation that allows you to tune into Metatron's energies. This process not only connects you with his energy, but can also bring balance and harmony to your daily life. Huh. Okay. So he's a great guy. Sounds like it. He manifests in flashes of color, lights are flashes of color, feelings of peace, secret synchronicities. Let's hope he's gonna bring these boys some guidance on their spiritual path.
LA:I hope so. Uh quote to close it out is from Metatron, not Megatron. When he was talking to the boys about his, you know, all his readings and things, he said, What you brought to this earth, all the mayhem, the murder, just the raw, wild invention of God's naked apes. It was mind-blowing.
Berly:Cheers. Cheers. Thank you for listening to Denim Wrapped Nightmares.
