Berly:

Ellie, welcome to denim wrapped nightmares, Tipsy Exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series, episode by episode,

LA:

over drinks, we'll discuss the lore the gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly:

I'm Burleigh, and I'm a new fan of the series. I'm

LA:

LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get Tipsy. Hello, la. Hey Burley.

Berly:

LA's on recap today. So I will tell us about I feel like I'm using the voice from that SNL sketch where they're talking about sweaty balls. Good sketch. So I'm going to tell you guys about last week's episode, let's do a quick reminder of where we were at in the girl with the drungs Whoop and dragons tattoo, Dick Roman, played by James Patrick Stewart, got a hold of Frank's hard drive, and it contained information About the Winchesters so he gave it to his unsuspecting, yet brilliant hacker employee named Charlie. What was Charlie's job? Yeah, I don't know. What did she do? No clue. Just hack stuff as needed.

Unknown:

Yeah, maybe she was in it for the company. Yeah, we

Berly:

never found out what she actually did her job. No, but she should have taken that job at Google. Yeah, anyway, he tells her that she has this says 48 hours, I could have sworn he said, three days anyway to crack the firewall where she was fired. Sam and Dean are tipped off that dick is hard, oops, I mean, has the hard drive they race to Charlie before she breaks the code. Not quite. She actually broke the code. Who wrote this? I

LA:

know I'm telling you sometimes these recaps and like it's in it's in present tense, and I'm always wanting to speak in past tense when I do them.

Berly:

Meanwhile, Bobby tries to help the brothers too, but his dick rage gets him not helping. I mean, he does help, but at what cost anyway? That's it. Well,

LA:

today's episode is titled, Reading is Fundamental. Fundamental. Reading is Fundamental. It is the 21st episode of season seven, and it aired on May 4, 2012 May the Fourth be with you. Oh,

Berly:

yeah. See, I'm sitting here thinking of Ru Paul's drag race, because he's always like the library is open because reading is what fundamental.

LA:

Look at that. All right? Well, it starts out we hear some beautiful music being played. And I pointed out that the subtitles read as sad cello music, right? And I thought, what do we really need to classify it as that maybe somebody might find it kind of it could be just beautiful, yeah, but there is this kid, looks like high school age, and he is playing the cello in his room, and he is in neighbor Michigan. And then it flashes to the guys who are, I guess, at some hideout safe house somewhere, not somewhere. They're in South Chicago. You kind of start to notice that there's this same type of lightning going on in each state where they each are

Berly:

as the boys are hammering away on that. What did Dean call it? Concrete Lego

LA:

or, yeah? Oh, yeah. Oh, it was a caveman. Like, caveman, yeah, that was cute. Which and again, where was

Berly:

the red clay, right? I'm like, did they just wash it off? Was it not dry? Because

LA:

now it just looks like concrete rock. Yeah, concrete or rockers had layers. It did. It did. Before we get to that, though, I just have to point out that this kid had an alarm going off, that his cello practice was over, right? And then you go, it shows his computer, and his day is literally planned out to and I put in my notes, this kid is fucking organized. Damn. Good for him. Like, good for him, but maybe not good for

Berly:

him, right? Like, I don't think it's healthy to have that kind of anxiety levels at such a young age. Yeah.

LA:

Oh, but we quickly learn that this kid's name is Kevin, and he is high Strunk. Mm, hmm. He gets a call from his friend. I didn't catch her name. I didn't either. Okay, well, she's very sweet. They're talking about taking the SATs, and they need, you know, he needs to study and blah, blah, blah. And he pulls up his essay, and it's blank. So I thought it was so

Berly:

funny. He pulls it up right after the friend says, Well, I mean, the essay is equally important, right?

LA:

So, yeah, he pulls this up, and it's like, not in a good spot there. Ken, so he's freaking out, rightfully. So, if you care about your grades, you know,

Berly:

acting like This is do or die.

LA:

Yeah, the storm. There's a bunch of lightning and thunder. On each each state. And I think even Dean said something about that. It seemed a little ominous as they were hacking away at this, no longer clay stone, it's concrete. I

Berly:

like how he said, Does that seem like someone's yelling at us? No Stop. Wait, yeah. And Sam just kind of looks at them, and then they were like, Yeah. And just

LA:

kept going. I put my notes. Dean said, Fuck it, yeah, keep going. So as they're doing this, the kid, Kevin, is still in his room, and he gets struck by like a ton of lightning. Oh, my god, yeah, through his ceiling,

Berly:

his windows got shot out. I was like, damn, did he levitate? Levitated? Okay? I was like, Okay, what was, what was the Mortal Kombat Raiden,

LA:

yes, right. Kept trying to. I was like, who has, like, golden eyes, or does that one

Berly:

there? Yeah, I think it was right, yeah. I think right. Mortar combat, yeah, that's good, the three storms from Big Trouble in Little China, like, okay, yeah,

LA:

yeah. He's struck by lightning. His eyes glow this orangey gold, and then he's just laid out on his rug, yep, unconscious, Night, night. Then we see Cass uh, hell of an opening. It really was, my god, yeah, they're not expecting that much intensity, that quick, right away, yeah, had no idea what was going on. I mean, it set it up, because there is a lot that goes on. Oh, my God. This

Berly:

was a busy episode. I felt bad for being like, Can you cover this one?

LA:

So Cass is in the hospital bed, and Meg has her legs propped up on the bed next to him, and I thought

Berly:

they were on him. I thought she straight up on her feet, on her thigh, on his thigh. Maybe, I don't know. I didn't notice that. That's what I thought. I didn't look that closely. It's like they panned down and I saw her feet, and I was just like, oh, good for you, Meg.

LA:

I mean, that's that's dedication too, because then she would hear him, or she would feel him. Yeah, she wasn't anyway, she is listening some jams, reading her tabloid magazines, as one of the lightning outside strikes and thunder cast just sits straight up and he's awake. It switches back to Kevin. He is woken up by a voicemail going on from his mom, which he's still got an answer machine. It was 2012 do we have him then still? Well, you know what? He's so organized and, like,

Berly:

I think paranoid. My parents still had a landline and an answering machine, really? Oh, even though people had cell phones, there was still a lot of people felt like they had to have both. We hadn't completely cut off the landline yet. True?

Unknown:

Well, it was just weird. It was in his room. But anyway, right?

Berly:

Maybe he moved it to his room while his mom was traveling, so that he didn't miss anything. There

LA:

you go. Yeah, that sounds like Kevin, doesn't it. It really seems like a Kevin on top of it, yeah? So yeah, he's woken up to his mother on the answering machine saying she knows he's out taking his test right now, but she's wishing him luck. We'll talk later. I don't know he kept himself together better than I would, but he's like losing his shit. He's supposed to be at this test right now.

Berly:

Forget about that lightning hitting me last night. Yeah, where's the fuck that he slept through all of his alarms? I guess? Yeah, it's probably slept like a baby. It was out out best sleep ever.

LA:

So he is hauling ass to get to school or wherever he's taking this test at he I think he even ends up taking his mom's car.

Berly:

Oh well no, because he jumps up and he is frantically trying to get ready to get out the door. And then he, like, stands up and like, goes, Uh, and his eyes go gold again, and we see, like, the flashes of the tablet.

Unknown:

Oh, that's right, I forgot about that. See, I know it's gonna forget stuff. So

Berly:

then he gets, like, hypnotized, yes, but he does go steal his mom's car. Yes,

LA:

yeah, you're right, yeah. Then we're back with the boys at this safe house, and I think Dean's washing his face, brushing his teeth, doing something. Sam is sitting at a little table listening to the news, and it's all about this crazy weather that was everywhere the night before. There is mention of Bobby in this moment. I think I don't know what mood or something happened that Dean questioned. It

Berly:

was like a little tin mug. Okay, is that what it was on a shelf that just shifted just slightly,

LA:

and they did. He call out for he called out for him. But then

Berly:

Sam said that he was still, his energy must still be drained from what had happened with Dick, because Dick drained him. Dick drained him. He did because he hadn't been able to, like, manifest himself. Yeah, since then. So they haven't seen Bobby, really, since last episode. Yeah, so

LA:

he's out this episode, there was mention on the news that every woman who was nine months pregnant, almost like, almost ready to pop. Do, yeah?

Berly:

Who? Anyone who was due that month? That's right, like they all popped.

LA:

Yeah, they all went into labor last night. Which? Man, congrats. Guys, right,

Berly:

but damn, it's because the Leviathan is Dick. Dick helps people going. The Labor I've heard. I've heard that too, right? It makes sense now,

LA:

it does. It really does. I'm glad you clear these things up for me. Uh huh.

Berly:

Oh, we missed a section that I liked. So they do show after Cass wakes up, we go to the slaughterhouse, where, where they're building the slaughterhouse of people for people that Bobby had told us about last episode, and we see Edgar, which, hello, Edgar, I haven't seen him in forever. I don't think we've seen her. Hector. Hector or Edgar? Yeah, you're no, you told me, Hector. So now I'm wondering this says Edgar, okay, this is probably right, okay, but Hector, Edgar. Edgar, he cracked me up. He's looking at the blueprints, and he's like, you know, I think that the line of people might panic when they turn the corner here and see all of the blades. So we might want to, like, move this around or something like that. I died laughing. I don't even think

LA:

he called him people. He was just like, the line, the line. He doesn't have to dignify them with a title. So

Berly:

it was hilarious listening to them they're planning out their human slaughterhouse. I thought it was terrible. I got a kick out of it. I mean, when

LA:

you I didn't catch it, but when you pointed out, that's pretty good. Okay. Well, back to the guys, boys, the they have busted into this block of whatever, and there is now a tablet, like a stone tablet of sorts, that has some sort of writing on it,

Berly:

like I thought it was going to be CUNY. CUNY a form. Isn't that how you say that thought it was going to be that? But Sam specifically said that it's unlike any writing he's ever seen before. So it's not that

LA:

I don't remember the context of this conversation, you probably do. I just put down that big daddy came down and grabbed some dick,

Berly:

big Mr. Chopper daddy, right? Or big chopper Daddy comes down because they're talking about the leviathans. So I don't remember the context of the conversation either, but I know they're looking at the Leviathan tablet. They're talking about the tablet, they're talking about the plans. And Dean said that like Big Daddy chopper comes down and grabs some dick and Sam's face, I

LA:

know as I said, we had to rewind it, because Sam says, Okay, well, that's one way to put it. So and then right after this, Meg calls Sam to let him know Cass is awake, but he's tad different than before. Just tad. She mentions, they head back to Indiana, to the hospital where they're at when they get to the hospital and they're talking with Cass, Cass is still in his hospital outfit, yeah, but he put his trench coat on. I thought he was dressed because they just showed him from behind. And I said, Oh, he got himself dressed, but no, he just put his

Berly:

jacket on. He turns around. He's still in the scrubs. CASS tells Dean to pull his finger,

LA:

which was awkward. Dean proceeds to do just that, but instead of what you thought might happen, all the all the lights in the room bust open. They all shoot up. It was unexpected. And

Berly:

I was like, oh, man, the staff is going to be pissed about that, because that's already happened in that room. Like that happened when Sam was staying in that room from that brother ghost. Well, during this, Cass's laugh, after the Oh,

Unknown:

his little chuckle, yeah, it's like a little

Berly:

demonic chuckle, a bit was I loved it

LA:

when you rewound it to show it to me. I thought it was gonna be like a giggle. I was fully ready to write something about his giggle, giggle. But then, no, that was not a giggle.

Berly:

It's more like a Fat Albert left. That's true. That's true. Well,

LA:

we do learn that Cass woke up at 8pm which was the same time that they were cracking open the stone. And we later find out the same time that Kevin Tran little Kev was got lit up. Yeah, lit up and given new eyes. It switches back to Kevin and his friends calling him, asking where the hell he was today. Like, could you imagine having a friend like that? I would probably think they were murdered, right? If he's that. On top of it,

Berly:

she was probably freaking out. I love how he answered the phone, because he's already driving, he's driving and he's already being like, oh, then he answers the phone. He goes, who I wanted. I was like, what would you do if I ever answered the phone like that?

LA:

Well, think about it. So she's he's been missing in action, which he never is, and then he answers the phone like that. Yeah, she was freaking

Berly:

out. The closed captioning said, who I was? Like, I don't know if that was actually a word that he said, No, no, I don't think that was a word.

LA:

It was good. So funny. She's kind of scolding him. Where the hell were you blah, blah, blah. And his eyes flipped to his new golden eyes, and he just kind of, in a strange, calm voice, says that he's been he's been chosen. It is his birthright. He must keep going. He's not allowed to stop. And his friends like, Who says you're not allowed to stop? What's going? She's like, What are you talking about? Which good friend being very concerned for little Kev, I don't know why I keep calling him little Kev, hey, little baby. Little Kev, oh, and by the way, he had a great head of hair.

Berly:

You did say that whenever the episode first started.

LA:

So we're like, what the fuck has taken over, Kev, and that he where's he going? What's he been chosen for. What's this birthright? We'll figure it out after we see Kev on his mission, we go back to the guys, and they are showing CAS this stone tablet, and CAS says he knows what it is. It's the word of the Earth. It was written by Metatron, who was an angel and was the scribe of God. So he wrote the word of God. Out of luck, Cass. Cass, can't read it

Berly:

like tree.

LA:

I started to write tree. I was like, Alright, here we go. I'm gonna have a lot to write. Nope. And Meg wants to see it, and they don't want her to see it, which, like I said, I was like, they kind of treat me like shit when she's done them a huge favor of babysitting Cass for them this whole time, right? And then she just is asking to look at it. She's not asking to run off with it, guys, so they're not having it. They don't want her to see it, and they're going back and forth. CASS casually says, I don't like conflict and disappear. Which man, wish I could do that sometimes, like, I'm out, I don't want to deal with this. But unfortunately, when he pieces out, the stone falls and is broken, tablet stone, whatever, something

Berly:

that happened in that scene that I thought was funny is whenever he was first telling them that it was Metatron, and all of that was Sam was like, what the transformer and Dean was like, No, that's Megatron. And Sam was just like, What? What? And the reason I liked it is because it was Sam, like you would think Carrie characteristically, that would have been switched, that it would have been dean saying the transformer, and Sam correcting him. But I liked that it was switched because we all have our dumb moments. Yeah, all of us, and I love that, even Sam Winchester had a moment today. Well,

Unknown:

it was quite a download of information, but yeah, no, it was good. I thought that was funny. Random

Berly:

is all hell, but funny, right? And I have to admit, when I heard Metatron, I too, did think of like the 18 wheeler of transformer names, yeah,

Unknown:

I love him, by the way.

Berly:

Anyway, Optimus prom, yeah, okay, wait, who's Megatron? That's not Megatron the bad guy, right? Yeah, I'm thinking of the wrong one. No. Optimus Prime is the one I like, yeah, Optimus Prime is the one. I was thinking, He's the good guy, he's the good guy. Megatron is the bad guy. Yeah, no wonder Sam seemed so concerned, right? You know,

LA:

Dean decides he's gonna go find Cass. Because I think Meg said he goes, this happened before, and he goes somewhere in the hospital, the day room. She was like, I guarantee he's down in the day room, yeah. So he goes running after Cass, typical, and Sam starts packing things up. And Meg is just like, Fuck this. She's out. Sam runs after her. They're arguing over Cass, basically,

Berly:

Meg said, Who do you think that he'll come to his faithful little nurse? Like, whenever Sam was trying to be like, come on, she was like, why don't you work on him for a little bit see if he develops a crush on you. Instead, I was like, Thank you, Meg. Like, standing up for yourself, because, yeah, to your point, they do keep treating her like shit. I think I said when we were watching it, she's either your ally or she's not. You guys need to fucking pick one at this point, because it's real shitty that you keep using her when it's convenient for you, but then talking shit to her. What did she say? Getting treated like a second class citizen? That she was over it like, yeah. So I was really happy they had her stand up for herself.

LA:

Me too. During this little argument, they do hear something behind them. They run back into the room and guess what? Tablets gone. Oh, no, but we learn out. We will. We learn out. We learn little cap took little Kev ran off with it. Sam and mag go running after him. Long Legs. Sam catches him, of course, and Kevin is just saying he like he literally cannot let it go. He'd probably willingly give it up to him, but he can't. He cannot let it go. We switch over to Dean and Kevin Cass, and they're talking about how Cass just broke the Word of God. And Cass picks up the board game sorry, and just flashes

Berly:

them Dean. What an apology. Yeah, so sorry. And

Unknown:

what does he do? He like taps it. He

Berly:

like shakes it, and it all of a sudden, was on the table ready to go. Yeah, it's very cool.

LA:

Game on. Uh huh. I didn't write everything down that Cass said here, but

Berly:

he He talks so much that whole speech that he made about bees up in the room before it was cute. I liked it, but I can't quote that back to you, right? He's

LA:

talking about the retelling the story of. Life to Dean and that we live in a sorry universe. And I can't remember what else he said, but it was he said that

Berly:

he thought the Neanderthals were going to be the apes that like made it. But nope, it was us. Yeah,

Unknown:

oh yeah, we ate the apple

Berly:

and made pants.

LA:

Hey, that wasn't about it so funny. It was good, though, but Dean's not having it typical. I

Berly:

liked what he said, where he was like, You're not sorry. You're playing sorry. I was like, Ooh, look at the metaphor. Good for you. Dane,

LA:

yeah. Dean throws the game to the side off the table and says that. And Cass finally does actually say smart back in the room with Kev Meg Sam, he is trying to read what the tablet says, and he says it looks like it's the origin of the leviathans. God locked this away somewhere. No one was supposed to find it. Somehow. Dick did. He's

Berly:

dick. Yeah. Dick loves him.

LA:

I've heard he does kevs. I mean, he's having trouble looking at it, reading it, it kind of gets shaky and and blurry

Berly:

a little bit for him. He said it's like looking through someone else's glasses, right? Yes,

LA:

that's actually really what it looked like, too. But as he's doing this, Meg's eyes go black. I liked because she sent something coming, and Lil Kev sees it in No, he's he said, No. He said, Not today, demon. He freaks out. And two people show up. I expected to be demons. Turns out they're angels. They're, uh, co workers of Cass ex co workers. Sam starts talking with angels. They say that Kevin is the prophet, and they want, they're, they're wanting to take them Meg and Sam are like, no, don't think so. Jadine and cash show up,

Berly:

yeah, because it showed them down in the playroom picking up all the toys the game you mean, oh yeah, the game room. They're down to the game room, picking up the game pieces from Dean's little hissy fit. And Cass stops picking up the toys and like, smiles and goes, Sam's talking with angels, that's right, yeah. And he's, like, really excited about it.

LA:

He's like, my buddies are here. So yeah, they do go up there, but a little bit of a tussle ensues. Meg slices the Hester, the woman with it's an angel blade. Hester is like, where did you get that? Right? And that's when the chaos and Dean come in, because she looks over and she's like, Well, this guy gave it to me.

Berly:

Oh. She said, well, a bunch of angels died, is what? She said. What?

Unknown:

Yeah, oh, I missed

Berly:

that. She just picked one up, man,

LA:

okay, I totally missed that. Well, I mean, she's not wrong, you know, true. So Hester and the other angel they see Cass and she starts laying into him. Not happy with them at all. It was basically something about how he came and gave this great speech and then just smoked a bunch of angels and took off, right? So not cool. She's not happy about it. And her buddy anias, the other angel, they want fucking answers. CASS like, Well, I mean, he

Berly:

came up there, declared himself the new God, and then just murdered a bunch of angels. Yeah,

LA:

I'd want some answers too. Yeah, I can't blame you. I'd be pretty pissed if you did that. Dean hasn't showed up yet. So we see Dean come into the door frame, kind of, and then we notice there's a, what's it called the angel banishing sigil, yeah, and he smacks it, and all three angels leave. I

Berly:

liked it. Whatever cast saw that they were mad. He was like, Pull my finger. And this this time, it'll be funny.

LA:

Well, Kevin, rightfully so, is still freaking out and is just asking what's happening. What's happening poor kid, this poor, high strung kid,

Berly:

it's like, I'm just trying to get into college,

LA:

right? So they start talking to him again about what he was trying to translate from this tablet. And he said it seemed like it was more of a type of in case of emergency note from God, like just, just a little FYI guys. Hide this away, though, so you don't need

Berly:

it just in case these monsters that I made, yeah, like,

Unknown:

Okay, well, we'll see how you do deed said they had

Berly:

a few hours to get the hell out of there before the angels found them again. So they needed to go. Yeah? So all four of them, Sam Dean Meg and little Kev, get in, I'm assuming Kevin trans mom's car, that's what I figured, yeah, because it's an SUV, there's an SUV right and and take off.

LA:

And low kev's rightfully so, taking a nap in the back. Right, they're stopped at a gas station. Meg goes to buy a couple more of her tabloid magazines, and Sam's getting snacks. They pass crabs, they pass crops, they pass each other and dirty looks again. Pick and choose guys, pick pick a lane, pick a lane, and. And she goes outside to wait, and happens to see these two guys over there at a truck stop gas station. And these two guys look over at her, sure enough, creepy smiles, black eyes, so she knows they're on their tail. Doesn't tell anybody, though. They all pile back in the car and Cass calls Meg. He really kind of talks in circles. He's like, dogs and circle angry dogs. Yeah, they're very angry. And so what is it the rabbit? Yeah, something about a fake rabbit? Yeah? She know she had to assure him it's a fake rabbit. Oh, yeah, yeah. Anyway, she puts two and two together and tells them that he's at a dog track. And so Perth,

Berly:

she specifically knew he was in Perth. I was like, what? Which? Wow, right, was quite a blast away. Yeah, maybe you should use use Meg's skills a little bit more too, right? Yeah, because she figured that out very quickly. Also,

LA:

to prove her point, to Sam earlier, who'd she call? Right? Her, she tells him they're headed to Minnesota on Route, blah, blah, blah, whatever. We just passed marker, and he's next door in the back seat, between her and Kevin. Kevin wakes up, still freaked out, but Cass boots him on the nose, and I guess that helps, helps him calm down.

Berly:

He doesn't scream and yell anymore.

LA:

So Cass starts talking, and he was he's talking about how he was the captain, but looks like Hester's in charge now, and Dean asks him why they're mad at him.

Berly:

Dean tried to say, I'm not mad. I'm not mad. And tried to calm himself down and approach Castiel differently about what's going on with the angels. Why are they wanting to take Kevin? Why are angels after us? And then Castiel explained the whole that he's a prophet and they need to take them to the desert to learn the word of God and all of that. Yeah,

LA:

they have to learn away from man, away from man, yeah, which they don't go to the desert. They just go to the cabin. Well, they

Berly:

aren't the angels who are trying to sweep him away. Still, they want him to translate that tablet. Tell them what's on it. We need to follow

LA:

instructions. Okay, I'm surprised Kevin was okay with he was so

Berly:

freaked out. He was like, I just

Unknown:

got Colin. No. Poor kid. I liked

Berly:

it when radine came in the room back at the psych ward, he was like, Who's this? And Sam, what this is Kevin Tran he's an advanced place. What

Unknown:

else do you have to say?

Berly:

I mean, that's how he introduced himself. So I guess, you know, good for Sam for for just using the exact same language.

LA:

Oh, I do. I did like that. Cast said that he doesn't fight anymore. He just watches the

Berly:

bees. He watches the bees. Yeah, that whole lot. What was it? He was like, it's all laid out, like, everything that they do. Like, I thought it was cute. I didn't memorize how he talked about the bees, but it was cute how he talked about the bees. He was very excited and fascinated with the bees.

LA:

They were pretty fascinating. Kevin and Dean go down to the basement, and Kevin is really worried that it's a sex torture dungeon. That's what he says. It looks like he's very scared. Dean just ignores him. Get to work, kid and upstairs, Sam and Cass are having a little chat about how Cass saved Sam from his wall, his broken wall and psychosis. Yeah, Cass. I thought it was interesting. CASS said that he was, he was kind of lost, until he took on Sam's pain. Yes, having all kinds of roles, he's really having a a journey. It was, it was a sweet moment between them, though, kind of talking about all of that, since they're the only two that can kind of relate to each other on it

Berly:

well, and we know about from Sam talking not too long ago about how he's feeling so guilty about just passing that on. Yeah, where he was saying he felt like he was in the ring or whatever. We know he's been struggling with guilt about that. So I thought it was really sweet to get to see him, have that conversation, and get that closure with Cass, then it's okay and Cass is going to be okay. I mean, we think Cass is going to be okay. He seems good,

Unknown:

as Meg said, different, but Right. I like it. I'll go with it.

Berly:

I loved how that conversation ended, where Sam was, what did he say, we're going to help you get better, or we're going to fix you? And Cass, like, question, like, he basically was, like, I don't, I don't need to get better. Like, I'm fine. But

LA:

he just told you he was lost. Now he's, you know, he's better now, so, Mm, hmm. I'm happy for him. Kevin is downstairs working on the translation while Dean is dozing off in a chair. And what happens to make Kevin start panicking?

Berly:

It shows him looking at the tablet. It does a little vibrating thing again. And so he kind of, I think was just trying to take a break there for a second and then let his mind wander to college and all these other things, and he just started having a panic attack. Yeah? And

LA:

Dean kindly grabs a paper bag, helps him through it. And his Dean, like way, comforts Kevin by telling him that there's no use in asking, Why me? You know, the angels don't give a shit.

Berly:

The sad thing is, Kevin has no idea how much Dean knows exactly what he's talking. Well, you know, he just had to go through this whole being the chosen one for the vessel for the apocalypse and yada yada yada. So knowing his backstory, his speech, I thought was great, but I do feel bad that Kevin is probably just thinking, like, okay, Dick, yeah, jerk,

Unknown:

yeah. You make it sound so easy, yeah,

Berly:

you have no idea what I'm going through. Like, he probably thinks that Dean's just being an asshole, right? And that he has no he doesn't understand it all, but it's like we as an audience actually know he does understand, right? And he he's meaning everything he's

LA:

saying, and he's just trying to skip you ahead. Don't go. Don't go through all

Berly:

the struggling and all the suffering and all the fighting, like I went through it all. Yeah, it all ended up still happening, like they will still find a way. So just translate this shit, kid, that's

LA:

the Cliff Notes version of what Dean went through. And poor Kevin. He's like, Oh, that's why, that's what led Dean is saying all that. Because Kevin is just being like, why is this happening? All I wanted to do was be the first US Asian President and Dean. I think Dean's like, Well, do you want to do that? Study up. Yep, get to work on this translation. Figure it out. Dean would be a really strict dad. Like, no bullshit. Well, he wasn't that way with what's her name's kid,

Berly:

but yeah. I mean, this isn't his kid, though. He's not trying to parent this kid. He's trying to get this kid to do something specific using another one. Nina, he just wants to get that dick. Main goal for most of us, isn't it. Season Seven, get that Dick, and

LA:

then we see Meg. She's meeting up with those truck drivers from before at the truck stop. At first, she's acting like she's, well, I should say, she starts telling them that she's got casts to give up for Crowley, so she's ready to hand them over if they're ready. Then we find out she's actually playing them and kills them both, and then she just casually walks off. Yeah, I like that.

Berly:

I liked it. Whenever she was asking, Okay, so how many people am I gonna have to split credit with or whatever? They were like, We didn't tell anybody. And she was like, God, I love demons. Just yeah, stabbing them. I was

LA:

like, yeah. And true fucking brother Winchester form, still not trusting Meg, she can sneak she's sneaking back in, so it looks like she's sneaking back in. And they're like, where the fuck was she? Right? But they trap her in a devil's trap. When she, like, right in front of the door, she's like, what more do you guys want for me? Like I Lucifer and yellow eyes. That was it for me. All she wants now is to bring down Corelli. That's her main goal, her main focus. You guys aren't it? Since she was looking after CASS I don't feel like she's done one thing to make them really question her motives,

Berly:

right? Other than just the fact that she's a demon, right? They automatically assume they can't trust her, yeah, but you get to an extent, right? I mean, she did a lot of fucked up stuff to these boys.

LA:

She did. I I keep forgetting that, yeah, this character has been on for so much longer. Yeah? Really is because it's different actresses. Yeah?

Berly:

I mean, think all the way back to season one, season two, she tried to kill Bobby, or she tried to have a possessed Bobby kill dean. And, I mean, she's done some fucked up stuff to them, so it's like, I get it to an extent, yeah, but at the same time, if you don't start cutting her a little bit of slack, I mean, sure, still be cautious, but if you don't start cutting her a little bit of slack, she's not gonna help you all at all, right? And she's been kind of a big help, and she's kind of been helpful, yeah, exactly, at some point you're gonna have to pick one,

LA:

yeah. Now, unfortunately, after saying that, because she killed the demons, the angels now know where they are,

Berly:

right? I thought it was so cute. She tells us, like, this whole big speech. And Cass is like, oh, yeah, that was great, but yeah, but unfortunately, like, yeah, you sent a beacon out that they're gonna know exactly where we are. Now. She's

Unknown:

like, Man, I can't fucking wait.

Berly:

She's like, get every angel vanishing sigil on these walls now, but too late.

LA:

Yep, Hester and anias are back. They're back for their keeper. I believe Kevin. I don't know if it's Kevin or somebody in this room says that it's actually the angels that brought the leviathans into the world. Good job, guys. Cass. No, it was Cass. It was him alone. Yeah, remember,

Berly:

he's the one who did that spell and soaked up all their souls to try and become God. Yeah? Remember all that? Yeah? We thought we were gonna have that campy Leviathan filled Cass as a villain at the beginning of the season, but he just leaked out and blew up in the water instead. Just leaked out, then got naked, went and found Daphne. He's been, you're right. He's been on a journey, yeah.

Unknown:

Like, what a metamorphosis. But yeah,

Berly:

that was their point. Is that, like, it was an angel who brought the leviathans here. So do you think you can maybe help us out a little bit with trying to get rid of them? But Hester.

LA:

Hester is very angry, angry and disgruntled. She has some pent up

Berly:

resentment. Well, Cass says at some point that he was their captain, yeah, yeah, you know.

LA:

Or now she's in charge, and maybe she's a little bitter ship take over something, yeah? Because first she's hitting it, she's mad at Cass. Then she starts blaming Dean for corrupting Cass. Oh, my. God,

Berly:

yeah. What did she say? Like, the the touch of you is corrupt. Corrupts him. The second he laid a hand on you, he was lost. Holy shit.

LA:

And she wants to punish him for it. Oh, hell yeah. Nothing about Stan's fault. She starts going to town on Cass, baiting him up, and Sam and Dean go to stop her. But you noticed, oh, my

Berly:

God, it was my favorite part of the So Sam and Dean go to stop him, but the two other angels that came there with Hester get in Sam and Dean's way, and they don't like put their arms out to block them. They don't, you know, tackle them. They get two fingers, the two fingers, and they like putting their fingers, like in Sam and Dean's faces, like, Oh, you better stop, or we're gonna finger you. We're

Unknown:

I was writing my notes so I didn't see and you were like, oh my god, they threatened a finger. I thought what? I

Berly:

was like, Oh man, I've missed the angels, these angels

LA:

as well as they are being threatened with these fingering, fingering so they're frozen. They can't help Cass and Hester goes to stab him with an angel blade. I was like, damn. Who fucking comes in for the win? Meg, yep. I hope they start treating it better after this. She was like, somebody had to do it, right? Yeah. She stabs Hester from the back. Her Angel lay that she had so we got rid of Hess. Cass and anias are at the cabin, and Cass is telling, telling him he's not part of the garrison anymore. He's not going to go off with a nice and go back to that life with them and the angels. What happens to a nice

Berly:

they convinced him to let them keep Kevin Tran until he could translate what they needed, and then they could take him, right? Kevin

LA:

does, in fact, do that. I thought it was cute in like, the just the old school little notebook, yeah, the notebook he pulls out of his bag and hands it over to Sam. I was just like, Oh, that's not what I expected him to be translating on Okay,

Berly:

y'all better make some copies.

LA:

Two other angels show up to take the keeper, Prophet slash Kevin home, which is nice, but after little Kev takes off her home with the angels, Sam's reading over the translation, and it says that the leviathans can only be killed by the bone of a righteous mortal washed in the three bloods of the fallen wendry wine for me to you did, though, and that the first one will be a fall. It must be a fallen angel. I was on cast.

Berly:

I liked his facial expression. He was like almost being bashful whenever they said, a fallen angel, like, Who me? Yeah, exactly. It was so cute. And he said, I'm always willing to bleed for the Winchesters. That was a lot of blood he put in that. I thought

LA:

he was just gonna, kind of like cut his arm or something, give him, like, on the blade. But no, he had a little vial, glass jar of his blood ready to go.

Berly:

No, he put it in his hand, and he magically filled it up. Oh, I didn't

LA:

I missed that. I was taking notes. He must have been writing. Yeah. I was like, man, Damn, he had that bottle ready, good for they the boys asked Cass what he's gonna do. CASS says he doesn't know. And then mentions, isn't that amazing? Though I loved that. Yeah, I wish I felt that way,

Berly:

right? I mean, well, for someone who, when we first met him, was strictly following orders, orders, orders, orders, orders, orders, and then as he started to question those things and doubt those things, even though he was making decisions to defy orders, I think I personally felt like you could always tell that he still had doubts, even to the end, Am I doing the right thing? Am I doing the right thing? We even had that other Ben Edlund episode in last season where he was doing the whole trying to get to the vithans and all of that. And so I love that he's he's at peace with not knowing, now right,

LA:

not knowing what to do. And I guess he's really been told always what to do, yeah,

Berly:

or been overly concerned about what he's supposed to be doing and all that other kind of stuff for him to just be like, I don't know. And isn't that amazing? I loved that he does kind of know, because he's gonna go with the bees. He's gonna check out some bees. Yeah? Buzz, Buzz.

LA:

Then we see Kevin's poor mother talking with a cop or detective, and it looked like her kitchen at home. They think

Berly:

that he's been kidnapped. And I didn't realize it until you were talking about it earlier, but it's because of the friend where Kevin was saying, I can't stop that. The friend was like, Oh my God. Like, I'm not allowed to go. I'm not allowed to go. That the friend totally thought he'd been kid like, because I was always wondering that they saw stuff when they were stopped at the gas station that he had been kidnapped. And I was like, where did that conclusion come from? From the busted out glass in the room? Like, I don't understand where that came from. And then when you were talking, I was like, oh, that's, that's where that came from.

LA:

Go. She's such a good friend. Good friend. Kevin, the mom's frantic, but we hear a whoosh, and Kevin has returned with. Two angels, the cop and the mom, like, turn around, and she's so thankful Kevin's back. Blah, blah, blah detective whatever, goes over and is asking, Who are you? Yeah, and out of nowhere, just stabs one of them. Or I don't even think it was he just, it was just his hand, yeah, he went in him,

Berly:

and he made he inserted into him, yeah, penetrated, yeah. And then the black goo started forming and started coming out of the angels. And I was like, Oh my God, what the fuck is happening?

LA:

And lo and behold, it's a fucking Leviathan, right? And not only one Leviathan, it's Hector Edgar.

Berly:

We don't know Hector Edgar, yeah, it did turn into him. I forgot about that, yeah.

LA:

So it was him, and poor Kevin. Oh, my. I hope he they're not taking him again.

Berly:

I'm sure they are. They're gonna take him and that tablet so we get little Kevin later. Little Kevin's gonna be kidnapped. I think Kevin's gonna need some therapy, because he's the one who can read it, right? So they're gonna need him. Well, he gave them the translation. Sam and Dean have the translation. Oh, you're right, okay, yeah, they're gonna dick, yeah,

Unknown:

or a little. Kev, poor.

Berly:

Kev, goodness, he's never gonna finish that essay. Oh, well, you know what? At the beginning of the episode, he's like, I have nothing to say. You got a story to tell. Now, hey, can that essay be fiction? One door closes because you shouldn't tell them that this really happened? Yep, you're gonna end up where Cass was. This episode was written and directed by Mr. Ben Edlund, and that does not shock me in the slightest. Okay, so Gore, I would say the goriest thing that happened was CAS getting his ass beat. There was quite a bit of blood there, but I wouldn't particularly call that gory. The Leviathan killing of the angels at the end is the only thing that really comes to mind. Yeah,

Unknown:

I think you're right. I don't remember any blood or any more shocking

Berly:

than anything. Yeah, the special effects were kind of nice with like coming up. It was like he infected them, almost. Which made me sad, because whenever anias was trying to stop Hester from killing Cassie l he was like, please don't there's so few of us left, and I'm like, Well, shit, man, quit killing off all my angels. They got some fingering to do. Did you adore anything about this episode? Well, let's go see Cass again. Oh, I love getting cast back.

LA:

And this I like. We've had quite a few versions of cast and I like this one.

Berly:

I do too. I'm enjoying this version of Castiel, this fuck it mode version of Castiel. I

LA:

think I even wrote my notes. He's kind of Zen that,

Berly:

yeah, and it's almost not quite like Castiel in the end, because that was a hippie, fuck it. The world sucks. Version, this isn't a the world sucks. Fuck it. Version, this is a I can live moment by moment. I don't need to know what's next. Present, yeah, a present. I'm just gonna enjoy life. Version, yeah, I'm excited to see what else happens with this version of casu. So it was good to see Cass and or anything else besides that. I got a kick out of Kevin trayon, little kid. Little Kevin was pretty fucking funny. There were a lot of scenes in this and lines in this episode that were just random as all hell, but I loved every single one of them, because within the episode as a whole, it all fit. This was just a chaotic let's move things forward. Let's get things going. Episode and it just worked. Yeah, I don't know that if Ben Edlund hadn't directed his own chaotic script, that it would have come out as good as it did. Yeah, yeah. If he got to have word in which episode he directed, he picked a good one. I think this one probably needed his hand on it in multiple ways, because it was a fucking lot that happened in this episode. Yeah, so excited.

Unknown:

I was the

Berly:

one that had to I didn't realize. No, I'm sorry. I didn't know. We were like, Jordan. I was like, I know

Unknown:

my hand was hurting.

Berly:

I felt so bad,

Unknown:

like I can't even enjoy it. I'm having to take all these goddamn No, no, it's fine. Oh,

Berly:

but yeah. Like, the Megatron thing, the Meg, like, didn't she? Like clothesline Kevin, whenever he was running through the field with the tablet, you know, just idea, just so many little random tidbits here. There was so honestly, there was so much to adore in this episode. I can't possibly list them, all right. I thought it could be a fame. It was cute as fuck. I loved it, all right. Well, lore. I didn't want to do profits again, because we talked about profits back in season four. I think it was or five whenever we met Chuck Shirley in his boxers. Oh, good old Chuck. I tried to focus on the next new thing that was introduced in this episode. Actually, it was the first new thing that was interested in this introduced in this episode. So I Googled for a word of God tablet. Is there a real word of God tablet? Do. And I came up with something called the Emerald Tablet. This article is titled The mysterious Emerald Tablet, inscribed by Egyptian god Thoth. And it's from a little blog post on Greek reporter.com it's written by Philip cryosapulis, christopolis. Christopolis. There's no s, there's no T. Chrysopoulos. Chrysopoulos, okay, I thought there was, I thought you were making a t sound. Oh, did I say christopolis? I said christopolis. Oh,

Unknown:

chrysopolis. Who knows? Okay, here we go. It sounds very Greek.

Berly:

I bet it is, because, again, this is from Greek reporter.

Unknown:

Did you just say that?

Berly:

For all I know, Philip is the Greek reporter. The legendary Emerald Tablet of Thoth, who was the Egyptian god of wisdom and magic, is said to be a tablet of emerald or Greenstone, inscribed with the secrets of the universe. The fabled text is a short, almost poetic, cryptic summary of early alchemical belief that became one of the pillars of Western alchemy. Its Scribe is purported to be Thoth, the Egyptian God of the moon and of reckoning, learning, writing and wisdom. Thoth is the patron of all arts dependent on writing, including medicine, astronomy and magic. Sounds a lot like Metatron covers it a lot focus on that writing thing. Because, you know, scribe of God, scribe of the universe, yada yada, given the ancient Greek presence in Egypt following the conquests of Alexander the Great the name Greeks applied to Thoth is Hermes Tris megistus, meaning Hermes Thrice Greatest. We're going to stick with Thoth. Yeah, I think for this article sounds, you know, according to academic Armando May, expert of the pyramids of Giza and Egyptian art, Thoth divided his knowledge into 42 plates of emerald codifying the great scientific principles ruling the universe. The legend tells that after the gods fall, the tablets were cleverly hidden so that no human being might find them. May said only Thoth, on his return to that dimension, was able to recover the mysterious book, The Origin of the Emerald Tablet, is surrounded by legends. Some of these legends are within a religious framework, while others are based on the time they were formulated. There are also far fetched explanations and theories. The most common myth has it that the tablet was discovered in a caved tomb under the statue of Hermes in Diana, clutched in the hands of the corpse of Hermes Tris megistus himself. Another legend suggested it was the third son of Adam and Eve Seth who originally wrote the Emerald Tablet. Others believed that the tablet was once held within the Ark of the Covenant. Some even claim that the source the Emerald Tablet originated from is none other than the mythical city of Atlantis. Wow, they're really pulling all out in here. Furthermore, there are others that believe that the Emerald Tablet was an Arabic text written between the sixth and eighth centuries. Ad, rather than a piece of work from antiquity that ain't antique. Pretty sure that's still antique. The most common legend holds that the tablets were found in a caved tomb. I already said that is this book real? It's widely believed that the Emerald Tablet was carved into green stone, or even emerald but the actual tablet has never been found. The more scientific description of the origin of the Emerald Tablet comes from the book of the secrets creation attributed to apollyonus of Diana, an ancient Greek philosopher, teacher and one of the most famous miracle workers of his day since the Emerald Tablet in its actual form, has never been found, many believe that it is merely a legend and may have never existed at all. The history of the tablet may be confusing and disputed, but the influence of the text is not later. Scholars translated the Arabic manuscripts into Latin, English and other languages. Numerous commentaries have been written regarding its contexts. The tablet is a piece of esoteric text, but according to various interpretations, it may possess clues to the creation of gold, making it highly valuable to Western alchemists since antiquity. People have been trying to transform base metals, particularly gold and silver, into precious ones. It is said that the text in the tablet describes the different stages of alchemical transformation. Moreover, the Emerald Tablet is believed to reveal the process of creating a philosopher's stone, the ultimate material needed to transform any metal into gold. It was highly sought after for 1000s of years and believed to be useful in the derivation of an elixir of everlasting life. It is thought of as a medicine which could cure diseases, bring spiritual change, prolong life and even grant immortality. Some texts in the tablet are incorporated into various beliefs and philosophies, such as the words as above so below. I never knew that. That's a really common phrase. These words describe the idea that the universe consists of the physical below and the spiritual above. And what happens in the physical world happens in the spiritual world too. Accordingly, the human body is structured in the same way as the universe, meaning, if we understand the body, we can gain insight into the universe as well. The Emerald Tablet fascinated scholars and scientists. English physicist Isaac Newton made his own translation of the text. Many believe that the tablet could have influenced Newton on the laws of motion and the theory of universal gravity, purportedly, Newton spent 30 years uncovering the formula for the Philosopher's Stone, as evidenced by his papers. Only very recently were scientists able to look at the papers of Sir Isaac Newton as they had been purchased and kept in a vault by the famed economist John Maynard Keynes, and that's the end of the article.

Unknown:

Interesting. Never heard of it. I

Berly:

was surprised whenever I Googled it, and I was like, Okay, I mean, I guess we'll try it. And then as I kind of read through it, I was like, Okay, this actually works out. Like, right? I mean, granted, the tablet we were looking at in today's episode was specifically about leviathans, but still, I had secrets about the universe. And I'm like, Okay, this actually

LA:

kind of measures up. Yeah, I think works. Okay. Well, a quote to close it out from Castiel. He tells the guy, tells the guys, did you know that a cat's penis is sharply barbed along its shaft? I know for a fact that females were not consulted

Berly:

about that. Random Cheers. Thank you for listening to denim wrapped nightmares.
