Ellie, welcome to denim wrapped nightmares, Tipsy Exchange Podcast where we explore the supernatural series, episode by episode,

LA:

over drinks, we'll discuss the lore the gore and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly:

I'm Burleigh, and I'm a new fan of the series. I'm

LA:

LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get Tipsy. Hello LA, hello Burly. On the last episode, it was titled plucky Penny whistles, magical menagerie, Sam was forced to confront a childhood fear when a case took him and Dean to Kansas to investigate plucky Penny whistles, magical menagerie, a local pizza chain that hosts children's birthdays, part birthday parties. Sam and Dean discovered that the victim's children had recently been to the restaurant and drawn a picture of their worst fear, which then came to life and killed their parents. While Dean confronts the man behind the magic, Sam is left to deal with some very angry clowns.

Berly:

I loved those damn sound effects. Oh, I know. And that fight sequence, and somebody messaged me the music choice that I made for my little coming soon. Video, so thank you. Thank you listener for noticing. Oh, I picked that song with purpose because there wasn't a song in the episode for me to just pick from. Yeah, that's happening more and more frequently. Oh, oh, well. Well, today's episode is repo man. It is the 15th episode of season seven, and originally aired on February 17, 2012 very drastic shift in tone, yes, from last episode. My God, we start out four years ago, and thank goodness they told us, because we wouldn't have known otherwise. We're in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and we see a woman come pulling up and there's baby outside the cabin four years ago. Makes sense? At first, I

LA:

was really excited. I was like, Oh, we're gonna get an explanation. Then I was like, Oh no, this is four years ago. Yeah.

Berly:

And remember, that wasn't baby in that episode. It was some other car. Oh, yeah, we were told. So Nora, Miss Havelock. She's called the lot during the episode, and she's pulled over to this cabin, random cabin. Why can't Why am I having trouble saying cabin? I didn't even know what you were trying to say. I was throwing a D in there. For some reason. I don't even know why me and the D, you know? Oh, geez. Just love it. Gotta throw it in there every once in a while, just for funsies. So it's a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Sam answers the door when she walks up and she's talking about how, Oh, I'm so sorry. You know, I just had to see it, because it's not the same as researching and tracking. And I just, I just have to see it for myself. And we're like, What the fuck is going on here? When you

LA:

pointed out that very key, important detail, wow, Sam, oh, that

Berly:

was not four year ago here, present day. That was not four year ago here. And I was just like, I understand, like, you can't cut it. I get that. And they don't they. I don't know if they had, like, the technology like they do now, like they did with Luke and the freaking Mandalorian and all that stuff that they could have used four year ago, Sam, but like, Y'all couldn't have had a hat on him or his hoodie up or something, because that that hair that was not four year ago hair. But that's okay. That's okay. They clearly to let us know that it was four years ago, and then with baby, and then with the conversation. So we'll let it slide. As Miss Havelock and Sam are entering the room. We see that they have a guy tied up in a chair, and there's a devil's trap on the ceiling. It was on the ceiling, or the floor, floor. Okay, it was on the floor. And that Dean is in there sharpening his Demon Blade, and this guy's all bloody and gross. And then he goes, he's like, breathing like, like, panting, and then he takes a deep inhale through his nose and goes, Do I smell menopause? I was like, Ooh, rude. Ben edland wrote this, wow, Ben,

LA:

although I did, like, when he called her the Wiccan bitch of the West. Yeah.

Berly:

That was really cute. That was really cute. And I liked that they had a witch who was an ally. Okay, she was a Wiccan, but she was doing, like, spell work and stuff like that. Like, I like that. She was an ally, and not something they were hunting, right? I liked her character. So it turns out this guy has just been murdering people. Has just murdered someone in this cabin, Sam and Dean didn't get there just in time. All women plus size. Women, yeah,

LA:

they were all the same size, same hair color, all killed the same way. We find that out later, but, yeah,

Berly:

total serial killer, right? But, I mean, we see the body on the kitchen table. And he even tells her, you know, good job. Good job helping them, but you didn't help them quickly enough. And then he tells her, I'm gonna. That, what do you say? Scoop you out like a pumpkin? Yes. I was like, jeez. Well, this just horrifies Nora, and his eyes go black. He flashes the black eyes at her after telling her that he's gonna find her and scoop her out like a pumpkin. And she's like, Okay, I've seen enough. No, we're good. So she pieces out. She doesn't say, Bye. She just turns around his leaves, yeah, she's out. She just closes the door behind her, you know, gets in her car and takes off. Sam and Dean go back to the demon and they are like, we are looking for Lilith. We know she's got generals. You're gonna tell us where she is. You're gonna tell us who these people are, so that we know where to go find her the demons. Just like, fuck you. No, I'm not and Dean's got his little Demon Blade thing ready to go, and then the demon says, Okay, real cool. But um, how about you guys meet this vessel, my little meat suit that I'm wearing. Why don't you have a conversation with him for a little bit? And he does like this, and he turns it over to Jeffrey.

LA:

Didn't he call him a puppy dog of a guy? Yeah, he's

Berly:

a pappy of a guy, something like that. And he was, or so we thought, on a good show, right? He was a really good actor. And I get my whole thing is, why did he, why did the demon do that?

LA:

Maybe to try make him feel guilty? Like, no, hopefully, let

Berly:

him go. Okay, Okay, gotcha. Gotcha. All right. I didn't, I didn't connect that. Okay, so they turned it over to Jeffrey, and Jeffrey's just like, oh my gosh, you got to make him stop. Get him out of me. I don't hate this, please. I don't want to kill any more women. Yeah, please. Save me. Save me. And Sam and Dean are just like, okay, but, um, we're gonna torture you first.

LA:

We're gonna cut it, cut you and go in. Yeah.

Berly:

Is that okay? Do we have your consent? Poor guy. The guy was just like, all right. I mean, I guess, do what you gotta do. Not much of a choice, right? The demon takes back over. And I thought that was interesting, because as far as I can recall, before this episode, there's only been two other times where we've seen the vessel that was possessed by a demon get to be conscious and in control, yeah. But whenever Bobby reclaimed his own vessel and stabbed himself in the leg, and then chef, nurse that went and collected the babies for Lilith, she was

LA:

she on the one laid out on, yeah, okay, yeah,

Berly:

yeah, yeah, gotcha. So I've only seen it twice before, so it was interesting. It was interesting to see it a third time. Yeah,

LA:

also, back to what they do to this guy.

Berly:

Oh my god, the montage. It was, what hell of a montage. Okay, so the first the demon takes back over, and they were just, like, up. We just, we just got consent. And then dean is like, you know, I tortured people in hell. I'm practiced at this. I know what I'm doing. And, yeah, okay. Then the montage goes, Yeah. And, I

LA:

mean, like, we've seen them kind of, like, beat people up before or whatnot, or demons, but, man, they just go wailing on this guy. I mean, Dean punches them. Sam punches them. They're throwing holy water on

Berly:

him. They're putting holy water on the Demon Blade and then doing who knows what with that. And then didn't he get, like, a mallet or something at one point to, like, do something to his hand. I mean, they went to town.

LA:

Yeah, the guy was smoke, like, there was, like, smoke coming from him. Where they

Berly:

the holy water went. It's a montage. It was quite something. It was like, holy shit. It's like, Damn guys. So the demon finally is just like, okay, okay, okay, okay. I'll tell you, you're looking for Merrick. He's in New Orleans. So then we were trying to think, was there ever a Merrick? Is that relating to something that we've already seen, or is this something else that happened off camera at some point? Right? And I'm like, are we gonna follow up with that in the next episode? Because that's literally the all that's said about Merrick. Yeah, I would like to meet who's Merrick, right? I want to go to New Orleans. Let's go, but we don't get to see that adventure. It goes also supernatural. That was supposed to be the supernatural title card, in case you didn't follow it, I got you okay. Then we see Dean driving in his car. It's still four years ago. We've got Jeffrey in the backseat, and he is coming in and out of consciousness, and Dean tells him, I exercise the demon. We did see that. We did see him exercise the demon. Yeah, that was a really cool shot. We haven't seen that in a while. It's been a while, yeah. And so that shot from up high, with the smoke coming out and it kind of swirling around. It was pretty cool. But he tells him, yeah, I exercise the demon. My brother stayed behind to clean up the crime scene, get our DNA out of there. We don't see there's any reason that you should go to jail for the murder that a demon committed, just because it happened to have your fingerprints, you know, and whatnot. And Jeffrey's just like, okay, cool. I

LA:

don't think Jeffrey, at this point, like, gives a shit. What do you say?

Berly:

He's in rough shape, real rough. What did he say later that he had, like, a broken leg, broken collar, bro,

LA:

100 over. Like I was thinking, like, 160 80 stitches,

Berly:

like he got fucked up. He was like, yeah, they didn't really believe me whenever I said I got mugged, which is, this is what Dean tells him to say. He pulls up to a hospital, helps him get out of the car. He's like, you're good. From here, right? Yeah, you're good. Don't tell them the truth. Just tell them you got mugged. All right? Good So good luck. Bye. So then we come to present day. Sam and Dean have arrived at a motel, and it says they're at, hang on. How do you say it again? Coeur d'Alene, we're kind of like, Wait a minute. They never return to the same city. You know, never returned to the scene. What are we doing back here present day? And then we find out the murders have started again. So they're thinking this demon somehow got out of hell and is back in town and just picking up right where it left off. Then Dean gets a call from Frank, sweet Frank, who still doesn't have dick on dick. And I'm like, where's dick? We have not been getting enough dick.

LA:

I'm like, I

Berly:

want some dick. Like Dean said. He's like, just turn on loves of muffins.

LA:

But, I mean, I don't know how Frank's not getting any information on him, because Dean was like, turn on the TV. And he's on the TV all the time.

Berly:

Yeah, exactly. What are all these updates that Frank keeps calling with, and he's not got anything on Dick, and Dick's apparently all over the place, like he's all over the news. He doesn't care about Dick. What happened to his turducken? What's, what's going on with that? Oh no, I'm just, come on, give me some dick.

LA:

I like that. They're just, like, casually mentioning him lately and not really addressing anything with him. We're just like, just so you guys know he's

Berly:

still around there, still around the dick is still on the loose. It's still out there swing and doing its thing. But we're not gonna show you and we're not gonna tell you anything either. Further detail, he's just, he still exists. Okay, so deed is pissed. He's like, we should be hunting leviathans, not trying to chase down this demon. And Sam's just like, this is unfinished business, so we need to take care of it. Well, while this conversation is happening, there is a third party in the room, ladies and gents, Lucifer is talking about how nasty the hotel room is, yep, yapping away in the background the whole time. So this is kind of the flip side of what la just said in the beginning part of the season. You know, we saw the whole thing with Lucifer and the hand and using the pain from the hand to make Lucifer go away. But I guess maybe now that that hand is healing up or something, I don't know, it's not it's not working so good. No more. I guess Lucy's just becoming more prevalent, right? And we've known he's left us little breadcrumbs for us throughout the season, like I distinctly remember Sam saying something about how, hey, I sometimes see Lucifer when I'm brushing my teeth. I still don't understand why. That's how he Oh, because it's still a manifestation, not actual Lucifer, right? Okay, okay, I keep getting confused as to why it's Mark Pellegrino. Mark Pellegrino was not in the cage with him, but I guess that for whatever reason, that's how his mind makes sense out of what Lucifer looked like. So that was a nice little surprise to finally have that come to fruition. And with that, I understand why they haven't been able to really show us him. And I kind of get it with Dick Roman too, because you have to pay those actors every time they appear in an episode. And do you really want to have to pay them for a two second cameo, you know? So I get it. I get it. But it was nice to finally address the Lucifer thing and actually see him. And that definitely comes to a head by the end of this episode. Yeah, the dudes settle in and they go, sleep, sleep. They go night, night, but they have their police scanner on. And good things, these guys are light sleepers because we've got another victim, so they wake up, put on their suits. When are we going to get costumes again? I miss them, me too. I mean, the suits are nice, don't get me wrong, but it's every single episode, right? Give me some different costumes.

LA:

I feel like I'm saying right? A lot,

Berly:

I tend to be that. So, like the cabin, the what I was trying to create, whatever the I was saying at the beginning of the episode,

LA:

as soon as he said it again, I was like,

Berly:

Sam, indeed, throw on their suits. They're FBI agents, and they go to the scene, and the same officer in charge, is there? So he's like, oh, yeah, it's the drummer brothers. Like, whatever your name was.

LA:

I liked detective Sutton.

Berly:

I did too. He was just so friendly. He had a nice personality. He was happy to see the guys. He was like, Yeah, I figured you'd show up.

LA:

Like, good memory, yeah, remembering their names and everything from four years ago. Like, he

Berly:

clocked them right away.

LA:

I mean, I would do right?

Berly:

They do kind of strike me as being memorable. So Lucifer is in the background teasing them the whole time and saying the detective's name over and over again, saying, Sutton, Sutton, Sutton. But Sam is still ignoring Lucifer. He won't. He does not engage in conversation with him. He presses into his hand, and Lucifer flickers away. He

LA:

did. He did use the Sutton from him, though.

Berly:

He gets the cop to say the name. Oh, that's right, yeah, yeah. He's he still ignores them. So yeah, he's like, what can you remind me your name? He was like, No, it's okay. It's cool. Sutton. Yeah, Detective, Sutton. And then I. Lucifer stuck out his tongue. And at first LA and I both went, Oh, and then we went, but what could he do with that? Hey, that could be useful. Talk about memorable. Hey, it was this forked tongue, yeah, like, a snake, yeah. The CG was done really well on it, like, it made me uncomfortable, me too. It made me uncomfortable until I until my imagination kicked in. And then I was like, Hey, wait a minute. Yeah, I

LA:

wouldn't same when you were like, what else could it do? I was like, Oh,

Berly:

hey, there, Lucy, so they're looking at the body, and they are just like, Yep, this is, this is another one of the victims, just like the rest, they're looking at the scene. And sure enough, Sam spots some yellow powder. So of course, he sticks his finger in it and sniffs it as like sulfur. They don't tell Sutton this. They wait until Sutton's away to be like demon. We got, we got to, we got that demon. They go back to Nora ms Havelock. Is that what they call her from? Yeah, I like Nora because that's easier to pronounce, and I'm clearly having issues today. So we're going to stick with that, even though they normally called her by her last name. She has a demon trap painted on the floor and has this great little shop now. And they're like, Oh, what have you been up to? And she's like, you know, I've just been sending out special remedies and, you know, little talismans, things like that. Great Business, good things going on. And then she showed them that she's even been working on translating some what was it? Do you remember? It doesn't really matter. What matters is that she shows it to Sam, and Sam gets a really good look at this, and is like, wow, these are actually really, really good. You're doing good work here. So it's important that he sees these hand written translations. Oh, my God, that's really close.

LA:

That was weird.

Berly:

Imagine Lucifer tongue moving that fast you're like gyrating in your chair. After talking with her, she asks them, have y'all come to see Jeffrey like he's still around. Can't demons be sentimental, don't they like to possess the same vessels, if they can, like, you should, you should go talk to Jeffrey. And Sam and Dean are like, Oh, okay, yeah, good idea, yeah. Well, we're gonna go do that. Turns out Jeffrey is at a halfway house, and he's in like, a meeting with everybody who lives there, and they're having a conversation about their lives. And one guy really, really wants skinimax. He's like, we're grown men. Why can't we have Cinemax? And he's like, we've already talked about this. And he was like, fine, fine. He's really upset about it, but Jeffrey was very excited that he had been given permission to adopt a dog. Yes, she was ready for him to go pick up, and he was so excited about it, and he understands it's a privilege and all of this. And so Ellie and I are both like, man, what's happened to Jeffrey? Like, was he in this kind of situation before four years ago? Is he in this kind of situation because he couldn't get himself together? Well, we found out it's the latter that he, you know, was trying to tell people the truth about what happened, and was having an issue with sobriety, just processing what had happened to him, and kind of spiraled from there. But he was on the mend, like he was doing better now, and he was in this halfway house, and this was a great place for him, and he was getting the support he needed and all of this kind of stuff. We see him go pick up the dog, and he's walking along with her, and he's, he seems like he's so sweet. And like, yeah, yeah. He just seems really nice. But then he hears a noise in the alley, and so of course, he turns to go and investigate, not me. No, Jeffrey, I wouldn't. Oh, yeah, you literally were possessed by a demon. Like, wouldn't you want to mind your business? Yeah? Keep your nose out of it. Yeah? Not my problem. I would have just kept going. You're terrible. But whatever he was, like, nope, let me go investigate this weird noise that I just heard down this alley. And then Sam and Dean, like, jump out and, like, tackle him and like, have a knife at his throat. I

LA:

was not expecting them. I thought it was gonna be the demon coming back.

Berly:

That's what I thought. I thought that we were gonna see him get possessed again or something. So

LA:

when they just roll up on him, I was thinking, Jesus,

Berly:

they scared him to death. They're like, sorry. We just had to make sure. And he was like, what that? I pissed myself today. Jesus. Then he was like, you'll scared my dog. And then they felt bad. Well, I would too. Yeah, it was at that point that they were like, oh my god, we're so sorry. We did not mean to do that. We just needed to come find you, because it seems like the demon is back, like the killings are happening again, same pattern. We're pretty sure it's the demon. They head back to the half. House, and Lucifer is in the room with them again, but he he doesn't stick around very long. Sam's able to really mash into that palm. And I like that. We could see the scar. Mm, hmm. That was good makeup. I felt like we didn't get a very good look at it, because his thumb was over it every time it was there. But from what I could see, it looked like it was pretty good. So he's mashing into that scar again. So Lucifer goes away. This is when Jeffrey is just kind of filling them in on stuff, and they're filling him in on what's going on with the demon. Jeffrey asks, What was the last victim's name? And they tell him. And then Jeffrey goes, Okay, well, the next victim is going to be Marjorie Willis. The demon had a list, again, great memory from four years, right? He did say like he drilled it in my brain, like he he made sure I knew that list, like he lived by it. It was his list. He was real serious about this list. Y'all like he, I got it. I got it down. They decided to split up. Sam, go, go tell Marjorie Willis. Let us know if you see the demon come hunting and Dean will stay with Jeffrey Marjorie is a librarian, so Sam is at the library, and of course, Lucifer is in town. He is like begging Sam, talk to me. Talk to me. Quit ignoring me. It's been months. Oh my god, pay attention to me. But Sam is doing really, really, really, really well, until he isn't. He finally tells Lucifer, shut up. He finally engages with him, but apparently, like this, was the key to his downfall. By the end of the episode,

LA:

I liked that after Sam walked off, it was like, you know when you have a crush and they actually say, like something so minuscule to you, and you're like, oh yeah, that's me. And he says, he told me, shut up. He said, shut up.

Berly:

So here's my question, if this is supposedly not real and just a figment of Sam's imagination, did Sam imagine him doing that after he walked away? Who knows. So the reason Sam walks away is because we've seen Marjorie go pushing her big cart back to the back part of the library, and then this dude in like a leather jacket, goes marching with purpose right toward where they had seen Marjorie go. So Sam follows them back there, and then we hear like some moaning. Sam turns the corner, and they're making out they are going to town.

LA:

I was immediately thinking, that's not a same a scared bone like,

Berly:

that's not a that's not a I'm in pain. Yeah. Moan going on here. Come on, Sam, what are you doing?

LA:

I mean, good for her. He

Berly:

was all he was all over it, and she was like, yes, yes, right, in my What did she say? Expired, I don't think I didn't write it down references section.

LA:

Disassociated something, right?

Berly:

Discontinued. I don't know. It was hilarious. It was so funny that neither of us can remember

LA:

I was just so jealous.

Berly:

Good for you. Good for you, Marjorie, yeah, we were like, good for you, Marjorie, that's awesome. Back at the halfway house, Jeffrey and Dean are talking about how Jeffrey ended up here, and then Jeffrey goes, well, wait a minute, if he's not with Marjorie, I think I might know where he could be. Like, he had this special place that he likes to go to. It's where he nested. I was like, what?

LA:

Yeah, he was like, in his nest.

Berly:

I thought he said nested, it's where he nested. Oh, did

LA:

he like, I just put nest. I was like, isn't that what, like, new

Berly:

moms do, like, he's nesting, okay, but Dean's like, cool. Take me there.

Unknown:

Let's go nest. Let's

Berly:

go. Let's go nest together. It'll be fun. They show up and there's sigils on the wall, which I was like, what are those about? But it turns out like we were looking at the wrong thing, because Dean turns the corner and there's somebody tied up in a chair who has clearly had this shit beat out of them. And as Dean is going up to Him, being like, what the fuck man, the guy starts screaming and is wiggling around. And Dean's like, stay still. I'm trying to help you. And it turns out that's silly. And it turns out he was trying to warn Dean, because Jeffrey comes up behind Dean and, like, injects him with something in his neck. And Dean is out. We cut back to the library, and Sam is calling Dean, calling Dean, calling Dean. He's not answering any of his phones. He's decided this Marjorie Willis thing, like nothing's happening, nobody's coming. This is a dead end. Lucifer starts pointing out it's all there in the Coronavirus report. There's something different this time you need to look. And sure enough, the victims this time all have some tranquilizer in their blood system. And Lucifer points out, our boy demon wouldn't need a tranquilizer to take. Any of those women to do any of that stuff. So something's not adding up. Here. Are

LA:

you going to talk about how they bash their heads on the tables at the library?

Berly:

Oh, God, I totally forgot about that. When did that start? I

LA:

think it was right before. I

Berly:

think it started before Marjorie, when Marjorie was in the back getting her card cataloged. I think it was before that, yeah. But go ahead and talk about it. Talk about it, because I skipped it. Okay,

LA:

yeah. So it was when Lucy sitting in front of Sam just he's like, okay, so me getting in your way, in your face. All this isn't working. Let me try something. No. And out of nowhere, all the people at the tables around them just start bashing their heads into the table. Yeah. I mean

Berly:

violence. The one girl, did

LA:

you see that it was a tooth on the table in front of her? Oh, no. I mean, they were beating the shit out of themselves, yeah. And then just stops.

Berly:

Well, he pushes, he pushed. He pushed his button, he pushed his magic button is disturbing. It was really disturbing. And he got, he managed to get that to stop, but Lucy, like, stuck around. Yeah. This is when Sam tells him to shut up, and gets up and leaves. And Lucifer is like, oh my god, he told me to shut up. So they go back to Jeffrey's apartment, since Dean's not answering the phone and they aren't there because they're nesting. And this is when Lucifer starts pointing out something's not right here. And Sam starts going through everything, and he finds a false bottom and a drawer and pulls out these sheets of paper where there's demon summoning spells. And he's like, What the fuck is this? Lucifer points out, you know that handwriting, and it's Nora's handwriting, so that's why it was important that Sam got that really good look at her handwriting earlier. So Sam goes back to Nora, and it's just like, What the fuck Nora? What's going on? And she explains that Jeffrey has her son, that he is the psycho who's killing everybody, that he wants the demon back, and he told her that if she didn't help him get the demon back, that he was going to hurt her kid. So she was like, Yeah, already hurting him. Already sent her an ear. So,

LA:

I mean, that's fucked up.

Berly:

It ended up being pretty convenient, though. It ended up being a nice little gift there that he gave her. So she's like, saying, like, I I'm trying. I gave him the summoning spells, and then whenever they didn't work, he sent me my kid's ear and told me that I better come up with something better. So I sent him a summoning spell that I knew would work. And she opened the book and showed it to Sam, and Sam is reading it, and he's like, Fuck the blood of The Exorcist. So that's Dean Sam. Luckily, is just like, cool. You can do a tracking spell with this ear. You literally have the body part. I know you can do a tracking spell. Let's go save my brother and your kid. I'm done fucking around.

LA:

It's probably getting real irritated with this situation and Lucifer hanging around bothering him. He's like, let's get this done. I

Berly:

mean, how has he not lost it completely already? Yeah, because I'm assuming that what they're showing us in this episode has been happening throughout the entire season, because, again, they've been leaving us these little breadcrumbs that, like this Lucifer thing is still happening. We just haven't seen it. So it was, I'm I'm really grateful that they've actually let us see it. Back at the nesting nesting grounds, we see that Jeffrey, sure enough, has bled Dean into a bowl and has, like, this altar with all this stuff. It was actually pretty cool. Like, there was this symbol drawn out on the table, and then this big ass bowl in the middle of the symbol. And then there were, like, fire rocks. Like, you know how some fire pits, how it's the pretty glass rock things. It was kind of that looking stuff. And he had sprayed some gasoline in the bowl and caught it on fire, and then went and took the blood over. And then he was like, Hang on. I'll be right back, because they had to make sure we knew this was a really bad guy. He takes his new dog around the corner, and then we hear it screech.

LA:

I'm glad they didn't show it.

Berly:

I am too like, just for dramatic effect, though, the dog had gotten surgery, so it had the cone of shame. He called it earlier on. So for dramatic effect, that came, like tumbling out from behind the corner, so that we would know for sure this is a bad guy. It's a real piece of shit. Yeah, he came back with a smaller bowl, and I don't know if it was like a heart or a liver, or like what, but one of the dog's organs is in this little bowl that he goes and adds to his little thing, and he starts doing the summoning spell. And he's telling Dean he loved his demon. It was the best relationship he'd ever had, and he wants his demon back, you know, shame on Sam and Dean for coming and exercising him and like, you didn't even ask me. You didn't even ask if I wanted to be saved. Yeah, they kind of did, right? But, I mean, I guess that he just did what the demon wanted him to do. I don't know. So he's upset. He's just like, yeah, I want my. Demon back, but demon has other plans, yeah, so he finishes the summoning spell, and instead of going back to Jeffrey, the demon decides to possess Nora's son. So once the demon's in Nora's son, he's able to just break out of those bonds, no problem. And stands up, and it's just like, oh my god, Jeffrey, hi, long time. No, see, it's so good to see you. And he goes over and he's dancing with Jeffrey. And Jeffrey's just like, What are you doing? Come in me. Come in me. I want you to come in me. He said that. I know, I know. He said it over and over and over again. He only said it once, but in my mind. He said it over and over and over again. He's like, why are you in that? And the demon was just like, Um, no, I don't, I don't double tap. I'm done with you. I have no use for you anymore. Yeah. She's like, damn,

LA:

then, why are we dancing together?

Berly:

I know little heartbreaker. He was just like, you know, I saw the potential in you. Like, I'm a I'm a What did he say? I'm a recruiter. I'm a recruiter. I look for people with good potential, and I just fucked them up, like I did Jeffrey here, and then I let them go. He's like, you have nothing to learn from me anymore, Jeffrey. Like, look at you. You've been doing it all on your own. Good boy. I know you're fine. You don't need the training wheels anymore. And Dean was just like, Okay, well, what are you gonna do with this guy? And he was like, I don't know. There's not a lot of potential here, which means it was this, well, it means he's a good guy. It means he's a good boy, true. So we hope that he's gonna get out of there, okay? And thankfully, he does, because Nora is a badass, and did the tracking spell and they found them. Sam attacks the demon, and then dean is able to get free of his bonds really quickly, all of a sudden, which I guess he has been working on them the whole time. And just seeing his brother get there, just gave him the adrenaline burst that he needed to break free. Yeah, and so he gets his demon knife. And Nora, somehow, I don't know when she did this sneaky, sneaky, drew a devil's trap in the middle of the thing. She's gotten real quick at it, I guess. But she she managed to get a devil's trap on the ground, and they get the demon in the devil's trap. No Jeffrey gets the demon killing knife because he's a scorned lover, right? So he's like, You, so he's coming to try and kill Nora's son, but Dean shoots him down, so he's out, and then they exercise the demon, and Nora's son is just, oh, my god. That was a lot Thanks, Mom. That was a lot. Guys back at the motel, Dean just like, face plants on the bed. It's been a long day. Sam's just like, you're gonna you go night, night. And he's like, yeah. And then Sam, like, looks longingly at his pillow, just like, Oh, hey, yeah, me too. But then Lucifer pops up and is like, uh, I don't think so. No nap for you. You acknowledged my existence. You've let me in, and now I'm gonna make your life hell. And like, fire comes bursting up around Sam, and we like zoom in on his face and the nostrils are flared. So we know that means it's business, it's stressful, it's not good it's not a good time for Sam when his nostrils are flared out like that. It was written by Ben Edlund and directed by Thomas J Wright. I would not have guessed this was Ben Edlund why he normally does more light hearted stuff.

LA:

He went to the dark side.

Berly:

He did. He was like, let's, let's show my range here. Yeah, I guess we'll talk about Gore first. I mean, the spell work, I think, was probably the goriest thing of the well, no, the torture scene at the beginning, I was gonna say the torture scene at the beginning was pretty damn gory. I mean, not so much gory as violent, just violent,

LA:

yeah, well, and he was so bloody, and, yeah, sweaty and lit. And

Berly:

then the people bang in their heads in the library that was disturbing, yeah? And then the spell work at the end, yeah. Which, again, I'm happy that they did the dog thing completely off screen, but still, we still saw the organ sitting in the bowl and all that other kind of stuff. Good Gore, I feel like appropriate use of gore, yeah? Like it was used to make you feel disturbed in every in every scene that it was utilized, and I think that was a good way to use it because, yeah, this, this episode, was clearly meant to make you feel uncomfortable. And it worked. It did good. Yeah. Did you adore anything about this episode?

LA:

This is a sentence. I thought I'd never say it was good to see Lucifer again, right?

Berly:

Like I said, yeah, we've just been kind of being told, like, Oh, he's still around, but it was nice to see him again. The two actors, Jeffrey and Nora's son, they both did really well with playing the two different characters, the regular version of themselves and their possessed version of themselves. Yeah, they both did excellent. You adored it. Uh huh. I adored, I adored both those actors. I mean, Jeffrey didn't see it coming that he was going to be a creepy serial killer. And I did think it was interesting. The line Dean said something. I think it was the. The End, where he was talking about how, like, yeah, this psychopaths do, like, they put on an act. They act like everything's normal. It's not. And poor Sam is just sitting there being, like, with Lucifer, like, hitting a little close to home, yeah. Like, damn Dean. Like, how many times do I have to tell you I still see Lucifer and I just pretend like everything's fine? So Yikes. I don't think this will be one of my favorite ones at the end of the season, but it was, it was a good one. It was different, and I really enjoyed the performances in it. I liked it. Yeah, I liked this one. So on to the lore.

LA:

Okay, well, speaking of we're going to talk about psychopaths. Yay. The title of this article is, psychopathic killers often hide in plain sight. Uh oh. According to Psychology Today, the most dangerous predators often look harmless until they strike the news and entertainment. Media have put forward many inaccurate descriptions of psychopathic killers. They are often incorrectly presented as ghoulish predators or monsters that will readily stand out in a crowd. In reality, a psychopathic killer like Ted Bundy, John Wayne, Gacy or Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer can be anyone, a neighbor, a co worker, lover or a person on the street, any one of these seemingly harmless people may, in reality, be a stone cold killer who preys on others. Psychopaths are social chameleons who rarely stand out in a crowd. This characteristic makes them unobtrusive and therefore difficult to apprehend. This article is kind of freaking me out,

Berly:

I know, but it is scary.

LA:

Many of the most infamous and prolific serial killers in the US history have exhibited key traits of psychopathy, and many have been diagnosed as psychopaths by forensic psychologists following their capture, a cool and unemotional demeanor combined with a keen intellect and a charming personality make the psychopath a very effective predator, a lack of interpersonal empathy and an inability to feel pity or remorse also characterize psychopathic serial killers. They do not value human life and do not care about the consequences of their crimes. They are callous, indifferent and extremely brutal in their interactions with their victims.

Berly:

I did forget to cover in the episode, whenever Jeffrey was telling Dean about how it was his list, not the demons list, how he was stalking those women's when he was just a postal worker. That was disturbing. That was disturbing too, like damn, Oh,

LA:

give me the crepes. This is particularly evident in so called power, slash, control, serial killers such as Dennis Rader, the buying torture Kill Guy and Ted Bundy, they may kidnap torture and or rape and murder their prey without any outward signs of remorse, scary, increased attention has been given to the connection between psychopathy and serial murder in recent years, both by researchers and criminal justice professionals. Attendees at a 2005 Symposium on serial murder conducted by the FBI concluded that psychopathy is manifested in a specific cluster of interpersonal, effective lifestyle and anti social traits and behaviors frequently found among serial killers.

Berly:

That's what the demons looking for when he's recruiting

LA:

as reported by the FBI, these traits and behaviors involve deception, manipulation, irresponsibility, impulsivity, stimulation, seeking, poor behavioral controls, shallow effect, lack of empathy, guilt or remorse, a callous disregard for the rights of others, and unethical and anti social behaviors. These traits define adult psychopathy, but they begin to manifest in early childhood. It's important to recognize that psychopathic serial killers know right from wrong and are able to comprehend criminal law. In particular, they know that murder violates the law and mores of society. They do understand that they are subject to society's rules, but they disregard them to satisfy their own selfish interests and desires in court, psychopathic killers are rarely found not guilty by reason of insanity, simply because psychopathy does not qualify as insanity in the criminal justice system. I didn't know that, maybe either. But contrary to popular mythology, psychopathic serial killers are not out of touch with reality, and as such, are not mentally ill in either a clinical or legal sense. They rarely suffer from delusions unless they have a separate mental illness such as psychosis. Nor do they tend to abuse drugs such as amphetamines or cocaine in criminal court, psychotic delusions are occasionally presented as a defense by the attorney of a psychopathic serial killer. Normally, such claims are easily challenged by prosecutors, because psychotic delusions are not a character of characteristic of psychopathy, as explained by Dr J Reed Malloy, author of the psychopathic mind origin. Dynamics and treatment. Psychopathic serial killers are emotionally disconnected from their actions and therefore indifferent to the suffering of their victims. Their ability to disassociate themselves emotionally from their actions and their denial of responsibility effectively neutralizes any guilt or remorse that other people would feel in a similar circumstance. Their lack of effect renders them almost invisible to detection. In summary, psychopathic predators are often very difficult to identify. Do you think you would be able to recognize one if he or she crossed your path? I

Berly:

don't know. The more think about it, the more I'm liking this episode, though. I'm liking that they were making us think it was this demon. It was this demo. Was this demon, and it was like, oh, no, it's just this person. Yeah, it's just this person. That's the monster. Mm, hmm. I liked it. Well, hope to close it out. Whenever Nora is saying that when the killings were starting again, she was trying to get in touch with them. She said, Your number is not working, by the way.

LA:

And Sam says, right, we, uh, we've had some technical difficulties, phone issues, and

Berly:

then Dean says it's a monster problem, really. He was really proud of that too. Cheers, cheers. Thank you for listening to denim wrapped nightmares.
